Purpose of Job:

The Accounting Clerk provides quality service to our customers through timely and accurate financial information and assessment. This role will perform routine accounting activities such as maintenance of the general ledger and preparation of various accounting statements and financial reports.

Job Components:

  • Assist in verifying and managing general ledger account reconciliations including Cash, Fixed Asset, Company-Owned Stores (COS), and Gross Profit.
  • Prepare general and recurring journal entries and secure financial documents by filing accounting documents.
  • Prepare footnotes for the corporate financial statements.
  • Prepare and assess various reports using subsystems such as Subsidy, National Account Customers (NAC), Certificates, Cash, Accounts Receivable, Notes Receivable, Other Assets, and Inventory.
  • Assist with the year-end financial statement audit process including preparing supporting schedules.
  • Provide support and direction for other departments to ensure information is properly recorded in the general ledger.
  • Research and complete special projects.

Qualifications:
  • Actively pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field at a college or university.
  • Experience working in an office environment is preferred, but not required.
  • Interest in earning a professional certification such as a CPA and/or CMA is preferred.
  • Relevant coursework or academic projects in accounting are preferred.
  • Previous experience in data entry, bookkeeping, or administrative tasks is a plus.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles, terminology, and fundamentals of consolidation.
  • Understanding of business law, statistics, and general management as related to accounting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and specific deadlines under direct supervision.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in the utilization of Microsoft products (Excel, Word, and Outlook).

  • Interface with various internal departments.
  • Must be able to work in a "team-oriented" environment.
  • Carry out responsibilities in accordance with Interstate policies and applicable regulations.

Work Environment:
  • Ability to work on a computer for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to sustain posture in a seated position for prolonged periods of time.
  • Regularly required to use hands to grasp or handle, talk, and hear.
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move 20+ lbs.
  • Overtime as necessary.
