The purpose of the Department of Exercise and Sport Science (EXSS) is to discover, create and promote knowledge of human movement to improve the quality of life of individuals and society. This will be accomplished by establishing and maintaining well-funded research programs with a high-quality, productive research faculty who are committed to the research mission of UNC Chapel Hill and the department. The department provides leadership in teaching, research and scholarship in the discipline of physical education, exercise and sport science. A major commitment of the department is to discover, interpret, disseminate, and apply discipline specific knowledge to the university, state, national, and international communities. The department pursues excellence in educational programs including physical activity instruction, undergraduate academic and graduate academic programs. The activities program focuses on the acquisition of essential health knowledge, improved physical fitness, water survival abilities and skill improvement. The undergraduate major prepares students for graduate school and/or a professional career in exercise and sport science. The graduate program prepares individuals to function as scientists, educators, and practitioners in exercise and sport science. The department provides recreational services, fitness/wellness programming and exercise rehabilitation to the University and Chapel Hill communities. The mission of the department is further enhanced through interdisciplinary cooperation and departmental faculty securing competitive extramural funding in the form of contracts and grants. These endeavors enable the department to advance knowledge and thus serve the state and nation.
UNC's Matthew Gfeller Center and its Transforming Health & Resilience in Veterans (THRIVE) Program will serve as the primary home for the position. The Center carries out an important mission through a values-based clinical and research agenda. The research program aims to guide clinicians to better manage sport-related concussions and traumatic brain injuries through its work in the areas of injury prevention, injury surveillance, education, evaluation, rehabilitation.
We are seeking a highly organized and proactive Administrative Support Specialist to provide comprehensive support to our executive team. The ideal candidate will be capable of managing multiple priorities, possess excellent communication skills, and demonstrate a high level of discretion and professionalism. This position will help with reconciling travel accounts and training faculty on policies and procedures concerning CONCUR, speakers and guests. This position will also assist the executive leadership team by managing accounting and approvals of travel invoices as needed as the processes change and our units continue to grow.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:High school diploma or equivalency and one year of related office experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:* Proven experience as an administrative assistant or similar role.
* Ideal candidate must possess the ability to clearly convey, persuade, and negotiate information and ideas to individuals or groups.
* Comfortable with working with the public.
* Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
* Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software.
* Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion.
* Flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities.
* Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to work independently and to make sound decisions in the absence of formal guidelines.
* Experience with UNC systems (Concur, ConnectCarolina, BuyCarolina, CarolinaFinance, etc.) preferred.
