Duties: The Administrative Director will work within the new Penn Center for Nutritional Science and Medicine (PenNSAM), a multidisciplinary center directed by Dr. Gary Wu. The center focuses on integrating human clinical metadata, traditional dietary assessments, and standard nutritional biomarkers with data generated using the latest high throughput molecular profiling technologies analyzed through the use of advanced biostatistical and computational algorithms. PenNSAM includes several research cores: a Human Subject Research Core, a Biobanking Core, an Analytics Technologies Core, and a Data Analysis Core. The Administrative Director will work closely with Dr. Wu in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the core facilities by collecting, collating, and summarizing information from the Directors of each core facility that will be presented to Dr. Wu. This information will include integration of financial and budgetary reports collected from the Business Administrator of PenNSAM. This individual will play an important role in creating synergies between the operational cores, such as linking investigators needs between the Human Subject Research Core, sequencing cores and the wet laboratory cores, and identifying additional resources throughout the University that can be leveraged to achieve PenNSAM's goals. Responsibilities will also include organizing, preparing materials for, participating and maintaining written record of meetings with the PenNSAM Core Directors, the Center's Internal Steering Committee, and various other potential PenNSAM collaborators, both internal to Penn and CHOP as well as externally. The Administrative Director will also work closely with Dr. Wu to develop, maintain and/or modify current initiatives for PenNSAM as well as develop new strategic initiatives.
Qualifications: The minimum of a Bachelor's degree and 5 years to 7 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required, preferably in areas related to human diet, nutrition, and/or food science. Master's degree is a plus. The candidate must also have experience in helping to organize and direct human research studies at the level of a clinical coordinator with expertise in drafting IRB protocols. In addition to strong organizational and leadership skills, the candidate must also have strong interpersonal and communication skills. Meticulous attention to detail in the review of financial statements prepared by a business administrator is also a critical skill for this position.
