Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:The Office of the Executive Director for the Arts administratively houses Carolina Performing Arts, a comprehensive performing arts presenter serving the UNC campus and beyond, as well as Arts Everywhere, a campus-wide arts initiative supported by the Office of the Chancellor at UNC-Chapel Hill.
The mission of Carolina Performing Arts is to spark curiosity, inspiring all members of our community to discover and more fully engage with the world. We collaborate with dynamic and compelling artists from across the globe to create novel, mission-driven performing arts experiences in partnership with our community. Carolina Performing Arts (CPA) integrates the performing arts into the core academic and teaching mission of the University through its diverse programming and engagement initiatives and champions the power of exceptional arts experiences to enrich, inspire, challenge and transform. CPA oversees all artistic programming, campus and community engagement, marketing, and fundraising for its presented performances and manages all operations of its venues including facility rentals, technical production, audience services, and ticketing.
Established in 2016, Arts Everywhere collaborates with diverse partners to embed the arts into daily life at Carolina through creative and cutting-edge programs that promote artistic expression, live arts experiences, and learning through the arts. The initiative's vision reflects the potential impact of the arts at a leading, global, public research university: a global force for public good, the arts at Carolina generate new knowledge, develop citizen leaders, address complex challenges, and catalyze economic development. Through collaborative programming, strategic communication, advocacy, coordinated fundraising, and other efforts, the initiative makes creativity and artistic expression a fundamental part of the Carolina experience and education.
Position Summary:The Office of the Executive Director for the Arts (Carolina Performing Arts) is responsible for planning and presenting a comprehensive performing arts program serving the UNC campus and beyond. Private giving represents a primary, vital source of revenue for CPA and is inextricably linked to the organization's evolution and its ability to inspire audiences, nurture artistic innovation and excellence, and foster community co-creation. The Development team's singular priority is to cement and sustain CPA's strong philanthropic culture powered by a dedicated board and donor community.
This position is expected to collaborate with colleagues to advance CPA's philanthropic goals, promote best practices for fiscal sustainability and reporting, ideate on funding opportunities that will meet donors' needs and institutional goals, and communicate the critical need for philanthropic support through impact storytelling.
Reporting to and partnering with the Director of External Affairs (DEA), the Assistant Director of Development (ADD) serves as the primary annual giving officer, responsible for managing annual giving campaigns and a portfolio of 100 prospects, raising approximately $750K - $1M annually. The ADD is responsible for identifying prospects and moving them through the donor cycle from qualification and cultivation to solicitation and stewardship.
This position will grow and manage a portfolio of prospects and will actively support strategic planning and administrative components to advance fundraising objectives. They will also support special planning and execution as it relates to fundraising, donor relations and stewardship activities and events and support the team in cultivating strong, collaborative partnerships with campus peers and community partners. The ideal candidate will understand the landscape of philanthropy and have experience with executing strategic solicitations, including planned gifts.
This position will create a strategic and comprehensive development plan for annual giving each fiscal year; secure private funding from individual and corporate prospects and donors at the leadership annual giving level of $10K and up; and lead development and integration strategies of appeals and campaigns that lead to achieving annual giving goals.
The ADD will foster collaborative pan-university development efforts with UNC's University Development Office (UDO) and other units and partners across UNC Chapel Hill. As a member of the University's OneCarolina development organization, the ADD will set and meet personal fundraising goals consistent with best practices at UNC. Local, regional, out-of-state, and occasional international travel will be required. Evening and some weekend work is also required.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:Minimum of a bachelor's degree required (or foreign degree equivalent) with related experience. For positions with responsibility for direct solicitation of gifts and funds, a minimum of 1 year of professional-level, direct solicitation/fundraising experience is required.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:-Strong verbal and written communications skills with the ability to make a compelling case for philanthropic support to
CPA, aligning donors' interests with organizational priorities.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:-Two to three years of experience in annual giving, project management, volunteer and events management, or a
closely related field is required. Four (4) or more years of directly related experience.
-Successful track record in annual fundraising in higher education or the arts.
-Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 suite required. Experience with donor CRMs (Blackbaud), project
management tools (Asana), and/or Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop).
-Experience in designing and implementing direct mail marketing within a large company, organization, higher
education, or nonprofit.
