Job Summary:
The Assistant Director closely assists the Senior Director in ensuring effective administrative support is provided to the JSU Administration, faculty members and professional staff in the form of Pre-Award and Post-Award services. The Assistant Director also assists in setting and guiding the office toward meeting short-term and long-term goals and objectives, assisting in strategic planning, and representing the Senior Director, in the office and institution functions as necessary. The Assistant Director collaborates with the Senior Director to develop unit goals which reflect the needs of the university and follow the university's strategic plan.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Assistant Director will assist in writing comprehensive and high-quality grant proposals and work with appropriate JSU faculty and professional staff to create highly competitive projects to be externally funded to benefit the University and regional partners.The Assistant Director will collaborate with other institutions within and outside of Alabama to write and develop grant proposals that mutually benefit the University and its partners.The Assistant Director ensures effective management of grants through the Cayuse 424 Electronic Research Administration System, research.gov, grants.gov, justgrants.gov, eRA Commons and other websites.The Assistant Director will also use electronic grant funding databases to search for applicable grant funding programs and will train faculty and professional staff in the use of such systems. The Assistant Director also develops and delivers sponsored programs training to faculty and professional staff, creates and maintains sponsored programs monthly, cumulative, and annual reports for competitive and noncompetitive grant activities for the unit. The Assistant Director submits monthly reports and annual reports to university leadership. The Assistant Director also helps manage the Faculty Scholarly and Creative Activities Grant Program (FSCAGP) for Academic Affairs. In this capacity, the Assistant Director helps to oversee the timely submission and application process for the faculty research grants which includes the review of FSCAGP applications. The FSCAGP applications include literature review, methodology, budgets, and other supporting documentation.The Assistant Director will also work closely with the Senior Director in regional outreach when such activities are critical parts of collaborative projects that mutually benefit the university and regional partners including school and school districts.Performs other related duties as assigned.Required Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree in an applicable academic disciplineMinimum three (3) years of experience in working with grant proposals in organizations including local governments, county governments, nonprofit organizations, colleges, universities, or school districtsOR

Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum three (3) years of experience in grant proposal writing and development and working with grant awards within the post-award process.
