The Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative Medicine, and Pain Management at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine (UMMSOM) is experiencing a period of expansion. It is seeking exceptional candidates to join the faculty. Employment Requirements:

  • Candidates for this position should have completed a US-approved residency in Anesthesiology or have obtained equivalent training and certification.
  • Board Eligibility or Certification in Anesthesiology is required for this position. (Equivalence to board certification can be determined on a case-by-case basis).
  • While research experience is not required to apply for this position, it is highly desirable.

Job Description:

  • Generalists should feel comfortable performing various cases, including orthopedics, GYN, community OB, abdominal cases, general vascular, and kidney transplants. Generalists are NOT required to perform cardiac cases or treat small children (< 2 years of age). Limited skills in regional anesthesia and the ability to anesthetize older children are helpful.
  • Applicants should be comfortable supervising residents, CRNAs, and SRNAs.
  • Applicants should also feel comfortable performing cases on their own if required.
  • Applicants should be able to participate in the department's academic activities, including teaching and mentoring trainees and participating in departmental conferences and faculty meetings.
  • Call is expected to be 3-4 overnight calls per month (some calls may be from home). There may also be a need for evening and weekend calls.
  • The effort distribution may change based on department needs, candidate's interests, and success in obtaining extramural grant funding.

Compensation

  • Compensation depends on years of experience and determination of professorial rank at the time of hiring.

Founded in 1925 as a private non-sectarian institution and South Florida's first university, the University of Miami has three main campuses that house 12 schools and colleges. Approximately 2,000 research studies led by over 1,650 principal investigators have resulted in over $365 million in annual research and sponsored program expenditures. Most of this work is in biomedicine and biological sciences. Jackson Health System opened in 1918, is the largest major teaching facility for the UMMSOM and the State of Florida. It currently serves over 2 million citizens with its 1,550 licensed beds, soon to be more due to the expansion of additional campuses.

Jackson Memorial Hospital, the flagship hospital, is the largest teaching hospital in our nation and is located on the UMMSOM/ Jackson Memorial Hospital medical campus. Holtz Children's Hospital, attached to Jackson Memorial Hospital, is one of the largest children's hospitals in the southeast United States.
