Job Description Summary
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Associate Director of Stewardship and Engagement Strategy is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing stewardship plans for select principal donors to Penn. The role will collaborate regularly with Principal Gifts fundraisers on stewardship strategies and manage and execute assigned individual stewardship plans. It will also provide operation and strategy support for The Academy programming and communications. It will assist with overall stewardship program management and assure efficiency and organization of stewardship activity across the department. Furthermore, the Assistant Director will assist in coordinating, researching, and writing briefing documents for University leadership, including the President, to ensure productive outcomes on prospect meetings and stewardship events.

Job Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Principal Gifts fundraisers to create and execute individual stewardship plans. Produce stewardship reports and unique touch points as needed for individual donors in the PRN and CG prospect pool. This may include dynamic visual reports, strategic communication and recognition plans, special events and engagement experiences, video stewardship, social media, and/or other platforms. Collaborate with the Assistant Director and other Central DAR communications team members to develop content and deliverables
  • Provide operation and strategy support for The Academy. Assist with Academy salon dinners as needed, including generating and reviewing guest lists, invitation tracking, and follow-up with guests/PMs. Contribute to the planning and execution of Academy exclusive events.
  • Manage new member process for The Academy recognition society. Provide annual review of all newly qualified donors who reach the $1,000,000 lifetime giving threshold, working with Prospect Managers to ensure pertinence and accuracy. Collaborate with the President's Office to send invitations to new members from the President. Assist with other elements of The Academy program as needed.
  • Develop expertise in using Compass (DAR database) to research donor gifts, track stewardship efforts, generate donor lists, and various other stewardship functions.
  • Coordinate and/or prepare briefing documents for University President and select leadership to ensure productive outcomes on prospect meetings and stewardship events. Demonstrate expertise in the preparing these high-level briefing materials, researching and analyzing information from a variety of sources and employing exceptional judgment to prioritize and synthesize information into written format. This work also entails creating and analyzing reports from Compass in order to understand complex gift analysis for both briefing materials and reporting.
  • Report to the Executive Director, Principal Gifts Stewardship. Work closely with him/her on the donor stewardship needs for the Principal Gift prospect pool. Establish and maintain strong working relationships within DAR, including the Senior Associate Vice President for Capital Giving, School/Center stewardship colleagues, Reports, and Records & Gifts Accounting.
  • Provide staff support for special events, as needed. May include events managed by Principal Gifts and DAR events that need volunteer staff.
  • Must maintain confidentiality of all privileged information, as well as demonstrate good judgment and the ability to work autonomously.
  • Develop and maintain a strong working knowledge of development and alumni relations at Penn by taking advantage of internal training opportunities, building relationships with colleagues, reviewing institutional websites and publications, and keeping abreast of breaking news.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree with 3-5 years of experience in fundraising, donor relations, communications, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience is required; experience in higher education preferred. Excellent written and oral communication skills; must be able to work effectively with diverse members of the University community with tact and courtesy; must have strong organizational and analytical skills and the ability to work collaboratively with team members; demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and demonstrated interpersonal skills; excellent computer skills, familiarity and knowledge of relational databases and use of the Internet. Some evening/weekend work and valid driver's license required.

Salary offers are made based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, as well as internal and market factors and grade profile.
