Behavioral Neuroscience, Visiting Assistant Professor
Colby College

Waterville, Maine
$0.00 - $100.00 per hour

Colby College is hiring a Visiting Assistant Professor in behavioral neuroscience to begin in Fall 2025. The specific area of research interest is open; however, we have a strong preference for candidates who use a rat model given our state-of-the-art vivarium is specialized for rats. We also are interested in candidates who are committed to reproducible science and who have research interests compatible with and complementary to the current research programs in the department or other areas of the college. Teaching responsibilities may include introductory and advanced courses in the candidate's area of training, participation in a team-taught introduction to psychology course, assisting with the department's methodology and statistics offerings, and supervision of student independent research. The ideal candidate has been instructor of record of at least one course. The initial contract is for one year but there will be the option to renew for up to two more years pending performance review.

Colby is a highly selective liberal arts college recognized for excellence in undergraduate education and close student-faculty interaction. We believe the best way to learn the science of psychology is by engaging our faculty and students in a collaborative search for new knowledge about cognition, emotion, and behavior. To this end, we have a unique curriculum that engages students in research at all levels. The successful candidate will be expected to teach with passion, to be engaged in an active and sustained program of research that contributes to the global effort to advance psychological knowledge, to involve Colby's exceptional undergraduates in that research, and become an active and engaged member of our academic community. We also desire candidates who, through their research, teaching, and/or service, will promote diversity, inclusion, and equity at Colby. For more information about the department, please see our website at https://www.colby.edu/academics/departments-and-programs/psychology/. The Ph.D. in Psychology or a closely related field should be completed by September 1, 2025.

Applicants should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, statements of teaching philosophy and research interests that demonstrate a commitment to equitable and inclusive teaching, a summary of teaching evaluations, copies of publications, in-press manuscripts and preprints, and three confidential letters of recommendation through apply.interfolio.com/154806. Review of applications will begin February 3, 2025, and will continue until the position is filled. Questions about this search should be directed to Professor Martha Arterberry: psychologysearch@colby.edu.

Colby is a private, coeducational liberal arts college that admits students and makes personnel decisions on the basis of the individual's qualifications to contribute to Colby's educational objectives and institutional needs.
