Job Description:


Budget Title: Senior Staff Assistant (SL-3)


Salary: $56,000 - $61,000


This position reports to the Director of Case Management Services and duties include direct service with students, families and the larger campus community, crisis work, critical incident response, consultation, liaison relationships, outreach programming and rotating after-hours duty responsibilities. This position will have a concentration on interpersonal violence work. The Case Manager will also develop and implement training(s), conduct data analysis, and prepare departmental reports. All case manager positions involve administrative tasks and duties. Case Management Services (CARE Team) works to educate and inform members of the Binghamton University community through caring, advocacy and supportive endeavors.


Our goal is to empower students and attend to their needs holistically through education and personal development. Case managers work with students to develop life skills and to promote social, emotional and educational growth. Case managers provide consultation, advocacy, resources/referrals and educational services as well as help students navigate systems throughout their college experience. All case managers work from a generalist, strengths-based, trauma-informed, client-centered, humanistic approach. The CARE Team is deeply committed to providing culturally responsive services to a diverse student body.


Responsibilities Include:


  • Serve as a primary resource for working with students in need. This will involve collecting, organizing and evaluating facts associated with the student's case; sending outreach, developing intervention plans, coordinating care and communicating with the student, collaborators and administrators.
  • Meet with students, family members (if necessary), university staff/faculty and community members to address needs, navigate systems, facilitate access to services and provide follow-up support.
  • Coordinate campus and community resources to support students.
  • Collaborate and consult with key stakeholders and members of the student support networks both on and off campus to develop a coordinated, multidisciplinary approach for responding to, advocating for and supporting students.
  • Advocate and provide supportive services to students impacted by interpersonal violence.
  • Manage record keeping through an electronic reporting database system, making sure all correspondence and action items are accurately inputted and in compliance with university, local, state and federal guidelines on reporting.
  • Analyze and maintain data, prepare reports, and develop and facilitate presentations.
  • Provide direct crisis services and respond to assigned University critical incidents such as student death; provide supportive services to those directly impacted, which could include other students, family and other campus partners.
  • Complete administrative duties associated with critical incident response.
  • Participate in overall activities and mission of the Dean of Students Office including professional development and continuing education.
  • Offer consultation and outreach to faculty/staff as requested and assigned.
  • As assigned, provide services after hours as well as on holidays and weekends.
  • As assigned, build liaison relationships with campus partners.
  • Assistant with University support of other Dean of Students programs and initiatives.
  • Meet with students requesting a medical withdrawal and complete administrative tasks associated with medical withdrawals and re-enrollment processes.
  • The Case Manager will also be required to participate in an on-duty rotation for campus crisis response within the Division of Student Affairs.


Requirements:


  • Bachelor's degree
  • Experience working in social work, psychology, public health, health policy, counseling, health education/promotion, student affairs, public administration or related fields
  • Previous experience in crisis response
  • Previous experience and interest in working with individuals impacted by interpersonal violence
  • Possess and demonstrate effective skills in organization, time management, planning, decision making, problem-solving, strategic thinking, communication, and effective use of resources
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Crisis intervention and counseling skills
  • Ability to handle confidential information in a sensitive compliant and appropriate manner; and use sound judgment in responding to crisis situations
  • Knowledge of the psychological and physiological impact of trauma and implications for advocacy
  • Experience providing trauma-informed and culturally responsive services
  • Ability to work with students, staff, faculty and upper-level administration, parents and other stakeholders
  • Knowledge of and experience in working with adolescents or young adults
  • Must have demonstrated positive interpersonal skills, oral and written communication skills, public speaking skills
  • Must have demonstrated cultural competence with the ability to lead in a dynamic community with a diverse student body
  • Computer skills, including presentation software, google suite, Microsoft office suite
  • Ability to work flexible evening and weekend hours, as necessary

Preferred:


  • Master's or advanced degree
  • Two or more years of experience working in social work, psychology, public health, health policy, counseling, health education/promotion, student affairs, public administration or related fields
  • Professional licensure
  • Knowledge of DSM 5 and government regulations pertaining to students including FERPA, HIPAA, Title IV of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Title IX of Education Amendments of 1972, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to the concerns and need of a diverse student population including first-generation college students
  • Experience developing crisis response protocols and strategies
  • Experience working in a college/university environment
  • Ability to manage multiple, complete cases at a time
  • Experience working with individuals impacted by interpersonal violence
  • Experience and/or understanding of the Student Conduct process
  • Familiarity with Maxient system
