Founded in 1813, Colby College is a prestigious liberal arts institution located in central Maine. It consistently ranks among the top colleges and universities nationwide and offers an academic program that emphasizes the deep exploration of ideas. With a commitment to providing a global experience, research opportunities, and internships for all students, Colby prepares its students to be critical thinkers, proficient communicators, and responsible global citizens.

Under the leadership of President David Greene, Colby College has seen significant growth and progress. The number of applications has quadrupled, reaching over 19,000, and the Dare Northward campaign has raised its goal from $750 million to $1 billion, with the current total at $865 million. This campaign supports various initiatives, including the revitalization of downtown Waterville, academic partnerships, financial aid, and global experiences.

With a strong endowment and a generous financial aid program, Colby ensures that 46% of its students receive financial assistance, making the college accessible to a diverse and talented student body from around the world.

The Chief Advancement Officer (CAO) is a crucial leadership position responsible for raising the College's fundraising and advancement efforts to historic levels. This role offers an exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of the largest campaign in liberal arts college history, the Dare Northward campaign, which aims to raise $1 billion to further position Colby as a national leader in liberal arts education.

Reporting to the Senior Vice President, the CAO will oversee all aspects of fundraising, alumni and donor engagement, operations, and research. The ideal candidate will be a strategic and data-informed decision-maker with extensive experience in fundraising and managing teams in complex organizations.

Key responsibilities include developing and implementing effective fundraising strategies, fostering a diverse and inclusive working environment, and using contemporary analytics to guide the Advancement Office's efforts. The CAO will also personally cultivate, solicit, and steward high-level prospects, ensuring the college's long-term philanthropic success.

The CAO must possess a proven track record in comprehensive campaign management, exemplary interpersonal skills, and a strong work ethic. A minimum of ten years of fundraising and managerial experience, flexibility to travel, and a bachelor's degree are required. The preferred candidate will demonstrate success in cultivating major gifts, strategic planning, and implementing detailed strategies in a dynamic environment.
