The Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine at Stanford University seeks a highly motivated individual to be the next Chief of Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesiology with an appointment as Associate Professor or Professor in the University Medical Line or Clinician Educator Line. The successful applicant must be fellowship-trained or have equivalent experience in pediatric cardiac anesthesiology and be committed to clinical and scholarly excellence with a track record of leadership and accomplishments in the field of pediatric anesthesia. Individuals with programs of research, quality improvement or education related to pediatric cardiac anesthesiology are strongly encouraged to apply.

  • The major criteria for appointment for faculty in the University Medical Line shall be excellence in the overall mix of clinical care, clinical teaching, scholarly activity that advances clinical medicine, and institutional service appropriate to the programmatic need the individual is expected to fulfill.
  • The major criterion for appointment as Clinician Educators is excellence in the overall mix of clinical care, teaching, administrative and/or scholarship appropriate to the programmatic need the individual is expected to fulfill.

Academic rank and line will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.

The successful candidate must have an MD or DO degree (or foreign equivalent) and be a board-certified (or equivalent) anesthesiologist who is eligible for a California license or exemption.

The successful candidate will become responsible for senior-level physician executive leadership, administration, and management of the Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesia Service, which encompasses faculty, residents, fellows, APPs, and nurse coordinators. The Chief of Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesiology is responsible for ensuring consistently high-quality perioperative care to both adult and pediatric patients with congenital heart disease undergoing cardiac surgery, interventional cardiac catheterization, electrophysiology, and imaging procedures, as well cardiac patients undergoing non-cardiac surgery. The role involves overseeing and overseeing clinical operations, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and coordinating research and educational activities in a highly dynamic and complex clinical setting.

The Chief plays a significant role in advancing the academic mission of the School of Medicine by supporting research and education, ensuring compliance with regulatory and institutional standards, and developing and implementing protocols. Important responsibilities also include recruitment and retention of qualified faculty as well as fostering faculty development. The role is equally operational and strategic.

The expected base pay range for this position is

  • Associate Professor: $505,000-$515,000
  • Professor: $528,000-$549,000
  • This pay range reflects base pay, which is based on faculty rank and years in rank. It does not include all components of the School of Medicine's faculty compensation program or pay from participation in departmental incentive compensation programs.
