How you can make a bigger difference:

PURPOSE:

The Children's Community Residences (OMH) programs provide compassionate, high quality, evidence-based services to individuals and families in the communities we serve. Our staff uses a culturally competent, person centered approach to help individuals and their families develop skills and resources to improve overall functioning, to instill hope, and to strengthen resiliency. Our programs work closely with community partners to address health disparities in our neighborhoods while also celebrating the strengths and resilience of our communities. Our children's community residences are single site residence's 1 in Staten Island and 3 in the Bronx that provide a group living for eight children and/or adolescents. The program provides a supervised, trauma informed therapeutic environment which seeks to develop the resident's skills and capacity to live in the community and attend school/work as appropriate.

The Supervised Independent Living Program (SILP) provides a transitional living environment for older youth who are ready to move towards independent living but could benefit from a supported environment to build the skills required to live independently. The SILP provides resources for youth aged 17 to 24 who are experiencing challenges as they transition to adulthood.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Programming Manager works with youth in the residential setting and is responsible fordeveloping programs which provide appropriate recreational activities for the youth. The development of such programs is based on the client's clinical, and socialization needs and is tailored to the client's ability to succeed in such programming. As an integral part of the treatment team, the Programming Manger provides feedback to the clinical staff regarding a client's needs and abilities and uses their feedback in tailoring appropriate recreational programs and activities. The program lead and Programming Manager will collaborate weekly around individual and house programming for youth, including but not limited to recreational activities, event planning and in program groups.

KEY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Oversees all aspects of programming for the program. This includes recreational activities, therapeutic activities, events, etc.
  • Provides cultural and diverse programming for youth well-being.
  • Facilitates psycho-educational groups with adolescents/ young adults, in collaboration with agency staff and external providers.
  • Participates in treatment team meetings.
  • Creates and provides weekly programming calendar and recreational opportunities in collaboration with the youth.
  • Assists in training and supervising direct service professionals on strategies to engage and supervise youth in the program and during recreational activities.
  • May be called upon to work one on one with a client who is displaying significant stress.
  • Will successfully complete the Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Training (TCI) to prevent, intervene and perform a therapeutic hold on a youth who is presenting as an imminent risk to themselves and/or others. All employees are required to attend appropriate training prior to performing such a therapeutic hold.
  • Successfully complete MAT training and subsequent recertification thus allowing them to provide prescribed medications to our youth in the absence of medical staff.
  • Attend all mandatory meetings and trainings.
  • Shares their assessment and observation of the youth with the treatment team and brings to the attention of the clinical staff and administration any issues/events of concern. Staff would also be required to complete proper reporting as required by the agency and regulatory bodies.
  • Will be assigned the role of the LGBTQ point person with our regulatory body as well as within our organization in partnership with the Jewish Board's Bridging the Gap program.
  • Required to perform shift leader responsibilities in the absence of the assigned shift leader.
  • Required to manage volunteers, collaborate with the volunteer department as well as engage in community resources.
  • Lead the Steering Committee that brainstorms and organizes special events at the program (i.e. graduations, monthly staff dinners, volunteer events with the youth, holidays and birthday celebrations).
  • Complete documentation in MyAvatar and Connections as it relates to client's progression in programming, recreational activities, groups, and house meetings.
  • Will completed the ACS LGBTQ Trainer the trainer course, will work with the Learning Department to conduct LGBTQ training within the Youth and Family Services Division
  • Other duties as assigned.
Team Process:
  • Participates in intakes, assessments, and discharge.
  • Participates in regular staff meetings and trainings. May be asked to travel to offsite meetings and trainings.
Documentation:
  • Complete Recreational Assessment for all youth.
  • Create and provide follow up on incident reports as appropriate.
  • Creating and updating the weekly recreational calendar for all programs.
  • Completes regular and timely documentation of all resident interactions, including progress and informational notes in the respective electronic records.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with the multidisciplinary team.

EDUCATIONAL / TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's Degree with 3 years' experience working with adolescents in residential treatment. Master's Degree in related field a plus .
  • Experience working as a lead within a treatment model, with prior supervisory experience.
  • Valid driver's license.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED/LANGUAGE PREFERENCE:
  • Some experience with youth in residential care or similar population.
  • Some experience with Transitional age youth .

COMPUTER SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office product, Outlook and Word.
  • Aptitude for learning new systems and application software.

VISUAL AND MANUAL DEXIERITY:
  • The candidate should be able to read paper and electronic documents and perform data entry into various computer programs.
  • Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to travel independently using public transportation and/or vehicle.

WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL EFFORT:
  • Travel in the community with residents via public transportation.
  • Work in shared office space.
  • Travel between boroughs.
