Job Description:
The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) employs nearly 2,300 team members operating nine institutions, which house approximately 5,200 inmates, statewide. The department's focus includes inmate programming and education, physical and behavioral health care, re-entry services, and community programs, and is accredited by the American Correctional Association (ACA). DUTIES:
Provide guidance and direct supervision to behavioral health provider supervisors at assigned NDCS correctional facilities. Meet with BH provider supervisors on a scheduled interval for professional development and supervision. Make routine site visits to assigned facilities and develop working rapport with wardens and facility administration. Oversee day-to-day clinical treatment activities. Develop and review operational policies/procedures/program overviews. Coordinate data collection regarding treatment activities. Determine clinical staffing needs and training. Ensure appropriate service delivery and documentation occurs per established timeframes. Ensure appropriate treatment plans are completed by staff. Oversee the development and implementation of targeted treatment interventions for individuals with severe mental illness. Assist the NDCS mental health director to coordinate mental health board applications as needed.
Requirements / Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in behavioral science plus supervisory experience and experience in program administration treatment, a rehabilitation of individuals with service, persistent mental illness, or sex offender services experience.
Preferred Qualifications: Licensed as a Mental Health Practitioner or possess another license that allows the incumbent to provide the above mental health services as required by NE. Rev. Statute 38-2122. Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Human Development, Psychology, Family Relations, Vocational Rehabilitation, Art Therapy, Divinity, Human Resources, Naturopathy, Mental Health or other field approved by the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services in order to become a Licensed Mental Health Practitioner. 3000 hours of post-degree supervised counseling experience. Experience providing individual and group therapy. Experience supervising master's level or higher staff. Experience working in behavioral health in a hospital setting. Experience working in a correctional setting.
Other: Must have a valid driver's license. Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the following pre-employment exams in this order: medical exam, and at a randomly announced time, pass a drug test. Once at the Staff Training Academy, must successfully complete the fully paid NE Corrections Training Program.
Knowledge, skills & abilities:
Knowledge of counseling theory/practices. Understanding of psychiatric issues inherent to individuals with severe mental illness. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to work in a fast-paced, hectic environment.
