General Description:

This position serves as the liaison for students, faculty, staff and the OCCC Campus community on issues related to Disability Support Services and assures compliance with the Americans with Disability Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act; determines if a declared disabled student needs accommodations; provides technical support if applicable; communicates accommodation needs to faculty as needed; stays current with legal requirements; and supervises assigned staff.

Minimum Education/Experience:

Master's degree

Two (2) years of full time work experience in Disability Support Services or similar area.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge:
ADA laws and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act;

Supervisory principles; and

Disability services.

Skills:
Collaborating and coordinating with others.

Abilities:
To appropriately apply use of adaptive technology.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
The work is light work which requires the person in this position to occasionally exert up to 20 pounds of force to grasp, lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:

This position requires the person to frequently move about the various campuses.

This position requires the person to frequently communicate with and listen to students, faculty, staff, administration, and others to perform the essential functions of the position; must be able to exchange accurate information in various situations.

This position requires the person to frequently remain in a standing and stationary position.

This position requires the person to frequently operate a computer, other office machinery, and mobile devices to perform the essential functions of the position.

This position requires the person to frequently operate equipment that involves repetitive motions of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.

This position requires the person to frequently position self to access materials that may be above head or at ground level.

This position requires the person to use upper and lower body to exert force up to 50 pounds to move or lift materials or equipment.

This position requires the person to judge, observe, and assess the accuracy, neatness, thoroughness of work assigned or to make general observations.

Work is performed in a relatively safe and secure office work environment.

Work is performed in a dynamic environment that requires sensitivity to change and responsiveness to changing goals, priorities, and needs.

Work is performed during office hours with some evenings and weekends as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

Four (4)+ years of full time work experience in Disability Support Services.

Required Training:

Annual Campus Security Authority (CSA) Training

Work Hours:

Monday - Thursday 9am - 6pm and Friday 8am - 5pm; evenings and weekends as needed.
Summer hours Monday - Thursday 7:30am - 6pm June 3 - July 26.

Job Duties (Position Specific):

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential job functions satisfactorily. Job Duties (Duties Assignment Statement):

Provides training to faculty and staff in developing reasonable approaches to accommodate the needs of disabled students in ensuring equal access; works with faculty in updating information; and assists in making wise accommodation purchases.

Serves as a resource to HR when disability accommodation needs arise for OCCC employees and provides them more information about accommodation options/technology, etc.; collaborates with faculty in the development of instructional support and strategies to ensure compliance with students' listed accommodations while maintaining standards of academic excellence.

Provides guidance and awareness of the legal ramifications of compliance failures; keeps updated; and follows the latest best practices.

Conducts intake interviews; assesses student eligibility for services; evaluates and interprets medical documentation to determine reasonable and appropriate accommodations; reviews enrollments; sets up accommodations; emails applicable accommodation letters to students each term; maintains a confidential system of documentation of disabilities and accommodations offered for compiling reports and preparation of summaries of service delivery; maintains a disability database for students; and periodically audits files to keep them accurate and current.

Coordinates the preparation and scheduling of alternative testing accommodations with faculty (extra time, reduced distractions, tests read or scribed, etc.).

Coordinates the activities of accommodations requiring part-time service delivery including readers, scribes, test proctors, etc.

Identifies and creates opportunities for students served by SAS and the greater student population as a whole so they can gain coping skills (like the Do Versus Due workshops) or have opportunity to de-stress (like the PAUSE events).

Oversees adaptive technology usage including the checking-out, tracking, and checking-in of equipment; reviews adaptive equipment and technology; ensures that the most up-to-date technology and software are available for students; keeps purchases within budget and grant guidelines; trains students/faculty/staff on use of adaptive technology equipment/software; and schedules and assigns work-flow to work study employees as designated.

Keeps the Director of Student Support Services informed of significant matters involving students and services; assists with preparation of reporting for semi-annual and annual reports for leadership; and chairs the OCCC Faculty Committee on the ADA,identifies topics for discussion, and facilitates that discussion at meetings.

Be available to local high school special ed programs and transition fairs to meet with special education students either visiting campus as a group or attending transition fairs off-campus representing OCCC; provides information to students and their parents(especially in regards to students getting Special Ed services in K-12 that are transitioning to life after high school where college may be a very viable option).

Participate in all applicable OCCC emergency, evacuation, shelter in place drills, and be prepared to take action and assist others in taking appropriate action should a health or safety emergency occur.

This position has been identified as having significant responsibility for student and campus activities. The individual holding this position is designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA). CSAs are required to report crimes they become aware of to the Reporting Structure at Oklahoma City Community College. Annual CSA training is required for individuals holding this position.
