Recreational Sports is a critical part of supporting student well-being and is a primary entry point at Indiana University Bloomington for supporting students in their health and wellness. Our team consists of 46 appointed staff members, and over 800 part-time student staff members. Job Summary
The Coordinator of Operations at Indiana University's Campus Recreational Sports is tasked with helping oversee the maintenance and operational effectiveness of various recreational facilities. This position includes supporting the Student Recreational Sports Center and Bill Garrett Fieldhouse while also managing the upkeep of outdoor/auxiliary recreational sports space, more than 400 pieces of strength and cardio equipment, and event setups and teardowns.
Department-Specific Responsibilities
- Supports the Student Recreational Sports Center and the Bill Garrett Fieldhouse with facility management.
- Oversees the maintenance and operational efficiency of v outdoor/auxiliary recreational sports spaces including the Outdoor Pool, Evan Williams Field, Recreational Sports Field Complex, Woodlawn Field, Tennis/Pickleball Courts, Tennis Center, Outdoor Adventures, and University Gym.
- Ensures an exceptional participant experience through clean and safe facilities appearance.
- Maintains and oversees 400+ pieces of strength and cardio equipment.
- Schedules regular inspections, maintenance, and repairs to ensure all equipment is operational and safe for use.
- Manages inventory of equipment parts and supplies.
- Assists with the setup and teardown of events, ensuring that all logistical needs are met.
- Coordinates with event planners and other stakeholders to ensure smooth execution of events.
- Manages any facility-related issues that arise during events.
- Implements and oversees procedures and protocols to enhance operational efficiency.
- Monitors and analyzes facility usage and performance to identify areas for improvement.
- Supervises and supports staff involved in facility operations and maintenance.
- Provides training and guidance to ensure staff are equipped to handle their responsibilities effectively.
General Responsibilities
- Evaluates recreation areas, equipment, facilities, and services to determine if they are producing desired results.
- Directs the design, implementation, evaluation, and expansion of recreational programming.
- Recruits, hires, supervises, evaluates, and coordinates the work activities of employees.
- Ensures compliance by implementing the established risk management plan, monitoring and training, and conducting inspections of facilities and equipment.
QualificationsCombinations of related education and experience may be considered. Education beyond the minimum required may be substituted for work experience. Work experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted for education.
EDUCATION
Required- Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Recreation, Sports Management, or related field
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required- 2 years of related experience with structured recreational programming
Preferred- Experience working with student employees, student organizations and event planning in a collegiate setting, as well as program evaluation and training development
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
Required
- CPR/AED within 180 days from hire
- Standard First Aid within 180 days from hire
- Preventing Disease Transmission/Universal Precautions within 180 days from hire
Preferred- Relevant certification in recreational equipment maintenance

Working Conditions / DemandsThis position requires both sedentary work and long durations of movement about the workspace. It requires the ability to move and transport objects and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential tasks with or without an accommodation.

Advertised Salary$45,000 - $55,000 per year, based on education and experience.
