Job Description:
The Nebraska Department of Education (NDE) is seeking a visionary leader to provide leadership and guidance for day-to-day operations of our Agency Support and Services, as well as support strategic initiatives of the Commissioner of Education and State Board of Education. Salary: Salary will be based on the selected candidate's skills, abilities, education, and experience.

Essential Functions
- Develops internal systems focused on continuous evaluation and program improvement.
- Maintains an understanding of the programs, services and operational functions of the agency and appropriately implements policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Participates in agency-wide planning, development, and evaluation.
- Assists with providing leadership and direction for NDE's relations at federal, state, and local levels.
- Represents the Commissioner of Education at internal and external meetings, hearings, and forums.
- Informs the Commissioner of current critical issues within the agency and pertinent incidents.
- Works collaboratively to complete annual and biennial budgets, and ensures the budget reflects major projects and initiatives, operational requirements, and changes in state and/or federal regulations.
- Provides leadership in the hiring, supervision, and potential discipline of staff. Conducts performance management activities including establishing annual goals related to the strategic plan, holding check-in meetings to discuss goal progress, and completing performance appraisals. Facilitates a continuous learning environment by promoting professional development to ensure all employees have the opportunity and skills to be efficient and effective in meeting the goals of the agency. Delegates work and projects appropriately among staff.

Working Conditions and Travel:
This position requires approximately 80% of work time spent in an office environment; the remaining 20% is spent traveling or working in alternative sites such as schools, government buildings, meetings, or conferences. There is also approximately ten days of overnight travel per year.
Requirements / QualificationsMinimum Qualifications: Master's degree in a related field and eight years of experience related to the essential functions of the position to include leadership and managerial experience. Any equivalent education and/or work experience may be substituted in order to meet the minimum qualifications of the position.
Preferred Qualifications: Doctoral degree in a related field and at least ten years of experience in a senior-level leadership role in education. Experience with education policy development and program implementation.
