Duties: Reporting to the Director of Communications at Penn Engineering, independently write and create content for news sites, including announcements of honors and awards, student stories, multimedia features and event coverage. Collaborate with external Penn Social Media Group and develop strategic social campaigns around both new and pre-existing content. Work with editorial staff on assigned stories as needed.
Develop and manage communications-related content for Penn Engineering's main website (seas.upenn.edu) and news (news.seas.upenn.edu) and events (events.seas.upenn.edu) sub-sites using WordPress.
Independently oversee the day-to-day management of existing social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram), including content discovery and adaptation for the different platforms. Throughout social media accounts, ensure that content is consistent with branding standards and style guide.
Create and grow new social media channels as the need arises.
Pitch, build and distribute the bi-weekly This Week at Penn Engineering newsletter and distribute routine special events announcements to an audience of 18,000+ recipients via MailChimp. Carefully manage associated listservs.
Provide digital media support for internal photo and video library, including responding to image requests, and light photo editing via PhotoShop.
Work collaboratively and support the Penn Engineering Communications editorial staff to maintain branding throughout the School's communications efforts, including editing and approving the School's departmental newsletters and other materials.
Qualifications: A Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Journalism, or a related field; 2 years to 3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
Demonstrated CMS expertise, strong multi-media writing and editing skills, and experience with photo and video editing. Strong multi-tasking and problem-solving capabilities and project management skills are required. Academic/scientific writing experience is preferred.
