As the IT Quality Assurance Director, you will be leading a team of QA Analysts and Test Automation Engineers (SDET) working within multiple Agile teams to plan, execute, and deliver technology solutions in alignment with Webster Bank's strategic objectives. Your passion for continuous improvement of the QA practice and the desire to remain hands-on in the architecture and design of test automation frameworks for UI, API, Database, and/or system tests will suit you and your team well. Your expertise across the software development lifecycle and Agile methodologies will ensure you and your team are working on the right things at the right time while maximizing operational efficiency and value-added outcomes. You are regularly intrigued by cloud technology, Agile DevOps, CI/CD automation, test automation, clean architecture/clean code, and cutting-edge technologies. Key responsibilities for the role:

  • Build trust with your team, cross-functional groups, and business partners through consistent communication and clear expectation setting. Ensure business objectives and solutions are clearly understood by your team and stakeholder groups. Proactively identify and resolve conflicts that arise between team members, assist with the removal of barriers to delivery, clear all impediments, and escalate as needed.
  • Optimize the talent on your team through career and individual development planning, proactive coaching, situational leadership, recurring touch bases, and team meetings. Perform goal planning and performance management activities. Clearly communicate expectations to your team members and provide ongoing feedback on a regular cadence.
  • Advance the maturity of the Quality Assurance practice by developing a deep knowledge of Webster Bank systems and processes within the team, maximizing test coverage and use of test automation capabilities, and staying current with new/existing technologies, tools, processes, and standards.
  • Apply and improve QA processes on projects, ability to customize QA solutions based on project requirement, foster audit readiness for QA deliverables.
  • Collaborate with peers and stakeholders to review high level business objectives align with test plans, test data needs, and test approach while considering the broader business implications of architecture and design decisions for new Initiatives and/or Epics.
  • Responsible and accountable for the quality of test case management, test artifacts, test data, test execution, and defect management. Serve as a sounding board and technical advisor for the team. Help team anticipate unforeseen dependencies or gaps early in the SDLC to avoid delays downstream. Embrace a shift left mentality.
  • Proactively attend Agile ceremonies and foster partnerships with peer groups to stay connected to IT & Business objectives being planned or in flight. Keep your team informed and embrace autonomy to adjust as needed to keep team performance high.
  • Conduct code reviews for test automation development to ensure best practices and code standards are being followed. Use code reviews to share knowledge and experience with team members.
  • Ensure effective utilization of test environments to support multiple projects and releases from lower to higher environments. Understand and follow change management, source code control, branching, and build pipeline guidelines.
  • Establish, monitor, and present key quality assurance metrics to measure effectiveness and efficiency of the practice. Share metrics with team and use them to drive positive change and behaviors, as needed.

Key skills/experience qualifications for the role:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, or related degree required. Advanced Degree is favorable.
  • 10+ years of progressive Testing and Software Development in Test (SDET) experience with demonstrated understanding of architecture, design, and implementation of test automation frameworks. This includes business requirements interpretation, test planning, expertise in QA processes and metrics development.
  • Familiar with the systems development life cycle, including source code control and integration with Application Lifecycle Management tools and Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment systems.
  • Working knowledge of test methodologies, processes, tools (Jira, Xray, Confluence, LoadRunner, Selenium, UFT, JMeter). Knowledge of relational databases/SQL. Experience working with QA processes oriented black box testing.
  • Effective communication at most levels of the organization required. Must be able to articulate IT strategy, roadmap, project, and continuous improvement goals, progress, and outcomes.
  • Experience in the financial services industry required with specialization in Finance, HR, AML, Corporate systems preferred.
The estimated salary range for this position is $125,000USD to $145,000USD. Actual salary may vary up or down depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position is eligible for incentive compensation.
