The University of Miami/UHealth Department of SCCC has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Director, Research Support to work at UHealth Medical Campus.

The Director, Research Support oversees research and grant activities within the department with the goals of maintaining financial solvency and academic growth. Moreover, an employee in this position serves as a mentor to department management and staff on issues of research funding.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS:

Develops reports summarizing research activity within the department on a regular basis. Maintains current knowledge of institutional and external policies and procedures to ensure compliance. Serves as liaison to federal agencies and other funding sources. Creates reports detailing grant spending and ensures that investigators are appropriately using funding. Oversees research initiatives and database personnel. Monitors projects to ensure positive project evaluations, future sustainability, and benefits. Reviews monthly institutional reports of research account and works with investigators to resolve discrepancies. Screens department budget assists in the assignment of expenditures and identifies areas of opportunity for cost-saving. Participates in various University research councils, committees, and research organizations. Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with university policies and procedures. Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on university policy and procedures.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Bachelor's Degree in relevant field

Experience:

Minimum 5 years of relevant experience

Department Specific Functions

The Director in the Sylvester Office of Education and Training (OET) provides operational leadership for Cancer Center faculty development initiatives. The individual is responsible for designing and implementing programs for Cancer Center faculty and helping to align OET activities with Sylvester strategic goals and priorities. The individual in this role works collaboratively with faculty-level Associate and Assistant Directors for Faculty Development and PIs of institutional research and career development grants to identify and support the needs of diverse faculty across Cancer Center Research Programs, MSOM departments, and academic tracks, organizing and overseeing an array of education, training, and professional development activities. This individual contributes ideas, innovations, and insights based on operational needs, ensures that the right objectives are in place, and is responsible for the coordination, follow-through, and resolution of top-level, complex matters to meet program milestones and achieve overarching goals. The Director acts as a liaison for OET with other Cancer Center divisions, and for Sylvester with various departments and offices within the School of Medicine, with relation to program development, implementation, and tracking and evaluation of the targets and goals related to OET and Cancer Center priorities, with attention to the entire trainee continuum. The Director also acts as a liaison for OET with education and training administrators from cancer centers across the country and is responsible for cancer research education programming that reaches a global audience.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

These duties include but are not limited to the following:

1. Sylvester Faculty Development Program (FDP):

a. Collaborate with Cancer Center leadership to identify and support needs of junior faculty across academic tracks.

b. Implement key FDP resources and services, including mentorship program, pre-submission grant reviews, travel awards, First Fridays, Junior Faculty Lecture Series, Lunch with the Leader, and other events.

c. Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with early-career faculty, as well as senior faculty mentors, research program leadership, and other stakeholders.

d. Develop strategies to increase junior faculty engagement in FDP activities.

e. Define metrics and track outcomes to continuously assess effectiveness of programs and evaluate faculty success.

f. Contribute to key strategic education and training initiatives for the Cancer Center.

g. Provide data and reports to AD for Education and Training.

2. University of Miami K12 Calabresi Clinical Oncology Research Career Development Program:

a. Operational lead for the grant.

b. Collaborate with the PI to ensure program deliverables are accomplished.

c. Work directly with departmental and sponsoring agency personnel as needed to administer grant responsibilities such as onboarding trainees, developing progress reports, and tracking trainee activities.

d. Help design, implement, and evaluate program curriculum, including annual K12 Paul Calabresi Symposium, Monthly Scholars Forum, regular journal clubs, and other activities.

e. Lead planning and execution of annual 6-week Design and Management of Cancer Clinical Trials course for global audience. Identify and develop new tools, resources, and funding and partnership opportunities to expand the course.

f. Coordinate meetings of internal K12 leadership committees and external advisory board.

g. Manage internal request for applications and review processes to select new Scholars.

h. Track Scholar activities and outcomes.

i. Assist with grant writing and reporting to the NCI.

3. American Cancer Society (ACS) Institutional Research Grant:

a. Collaborate with the PI to successfully implement all program elements.

b. Manage internal request for applications and review processes to select new awardees.

c. Plan and execute annual awards ceremony.

d. Serve as point of contact for local ACS representative.

e. Track awardee outcomes.

f. Assist with grant writing and reporting to the ACS.

4. Provide leadership, strategy administration, and direction for a wide range of programs to enhance their effectiveness and overall participant satisfaction.

5. Develop concepts and draft proposals for new initiatives.

6. Review projects or plans and make recommendations regarding timeframes, funding limitations, procedures for accomplishing project, staffing requirements, and allotment of available resources to various phases of projects.

7. Communicate and present action plans, proposals, and initiatives to internal and external audiences.

8. Supervise administrative staff for discrete projects and activities.

9. Monitor projects to ensure positive project evaluations, future sustainability, and benefits.

10. Manage administrative functions to ensure smooth and efficient operations of the organization.

11. Contribute to other OET programs and initiatives as needed.

12. Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree in business administration, Healthcare Administration or other related field required, master's degree preferred.

Two years of effective work-related experienced required. Experience in project and financial management desired. Computer skills including MS Office products, internet, and general computer proficiency required. Excellent English skills (both verbal and written), organizational skills, analytical skills, time management, prioritizing tasks, ability to work with limited direction, detail orientation, and multi-tasking required.
