POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of the Student Conduct Office works to engage, educate and support students in persistence and success in reaching their educational, and professional development goals. The Director serves as the Chief Hearing Officer for the College, directing the Student Conduct Program, which includes case management, oversight for adjudication and due process. The director also works to procure culturally responsive student services that address the complex academic, social, emotional and academic needs in conjunction with the work of the Care Team and the Bit Team. The director is the primary expert in Maxient, the record management platform used by the Office of Student Conduct. The Director serves on the campus's Behavior Intervention Team (BIT). The position manages the processes for conduct adjudication and due process and the resolution for general complaints from students against other students, faculty members and/or staff. Office Duties - Maintain regular office hours, assist with phone calls and office work as needed, and attend staff meetings. Perform other duties and projects as assigned by the AAVP Student Life & Judicial Affairs, and in conjunction with Division of Student Affairs initiatives.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/EXPERIENCE

Master's Degree required and a minimum of 2 years of recent experience in administration or managerial skills in a related field dealing with students and compliance issues. Ability to: plan, organize, and supervise the work of staff and volunteers; gather and analyze data and situations aid in making appropriate decisions; establish and maintain a cooperative, productive, and effective working relationship with staff. Demonstrate sensitivity to and respect for the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of Chattanooga State's students, faculty, staff, alumni, donors, and the community. Conflict mediation skills are necessary.

ESSENTIAL FUNTIONS

Organizational Culture and Inclusive Practices

The Director;

  • Provides leadership, direction and supervision for the Office of Student Conduct
  • Demonstrates effective, timely, accurate, and equitable treatment for all faculty, staff and students throughout the processes and procedures required of the Student Conduct Office
  • Develops positive working relationships with appropriate faculty, staff and students to provide effective customer service
  • Develops effective charges and appropriate sanctions in an equitable, consistent, respectful and effective manner.
  • Manages the complaint resolution process for inquiries and concerns submitted by students, faculty and staff members, resolving issues through the application of current policies and procedures.

Holistic Student Support

  • Collects data to identify trends and conducts analysis to appropriately support at risk students. Prepares annual reports, recommends, and implements data-driven changes.
  • Provides culturally responsive student services to address the complex social, emotional and academic needs of students in collaboration with the Bit Team.
  • Determines in collaboration with the AVP of Student Engagement and Support Services, the necessary education and training activities necessary for the college, relative to Student Conduct, Student Complaints, Title VI, Title IX, and the Behavior Intervention Team.
  • Oversees processes and procedures, including student complaint and judicial case management with timeliness and transparency.
  • Encourages students to take advantage of culturally responsive student services that addresses the complex academic, social, emotional and academic needs in conjunction with the work of the Care Team and the Bit Team.
  • Proactively administers the student conduct process to ensure that the process provides positive learning outcomes, enforces standards and policy in the adjudication process in a manner that is respectful and equitable.
  • Stays abreast of current trends, legislation and best practices, ensuring the student code and disciplinary processes are in alignment with state and national standards, current laws and best practices.

Fiscal Stewardship

  • Develops and adheres to consistent, transparent business practices in budget development and expenditures of funds.

Teaching Excellence and Program Innovation

  • Maintains consistent policies, procedures, and processes that center on equity for all students and that are aligned with federal, local, Tennessee Board of Regents compliance and equity standards.
  • Develops and delivers trainings, workshops and web information to educate students, faculty and the campus community of policies and procedures, including due process, Title IX, Title V1 and ADA.
  • Program goals and objectives are established and reviewed for all prevention and training activities and events, with appropriate collaborative partners to create strategies that support the vision and mission of the college.
  • Assumes supervisory responsibility for Judicial Officer and day to day office operations
  • Regularly assesses the quality of programs, events, activities, and services of the department;
  • Monitors Case Management - Maintains files on all assigned disciplinary cases, tracked sanctions and conducts investigations as necessary.
  • Investigates and adjudicates student discipline cases, student sexual assault cases and student complaints. Review of cases is used to determine patterns and challenge areas in assessing program equity and risk management
  • Serves as, or designates and trains a hearing board chairperson to serve upon request of a student for a formal hearing

Projected Salary Range: $52,060 - $65,070
