SUMMARY
The DEIA Advisor leads efforts to create an inclusive, equitable, and accessible environment by developing strategies, guiding organizational practices, and fostering a culture that values diversity and inclusion. This role ensures DEIA principles are integrated into all aspects of Consular Affairs.
Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The Essential Duties and Responsibilities are intended to present a descriptive list of the range of duties performed for this position and are not intended to reflect all duties performed within the job. Other duties may be assigned.
- Works with CA's DEI Council to identify and implement goals in coordination with partners across the bureau and the Department, addressing both programmatic goals tied to CA's public mission, as well as the DEIA priorities that are valued by CA's workforce.
- Report directly to the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Resources and coordinate closely with the Special Assistant for the Deputy Assistant Secretary on day-to-day activities.
- Review established bureau DEIA goals, determine timeframes for implementation and resourcing, as needed, and coordinate individual steps toward completion.
- Schedule, coordinate, and take notes at CA's DEIA Council meetings as needed. Advise the Council on short, medium and long-term goals, as well as government/industry best practices involving DEIA.
- Hold meetings with representatives of all CA offices and directorates to communicate goals and determine where additional efforts are required.
- Liaise with Department DEIA counterparts, representing CA's views on key issues.
- Curate DEIA-related materials in formats available to all CA employees, coordinating with HRD, S/ODI, GTM and the CA DEIA Council.
- Seek opportunities to incorporate DEIA training into CA's conferences, workshops and, in collaboration with CA Training at FSI, appropriate courses.
- Seek opportunities to include DEIA-focused themes in CA's Executive Readiness Initiative and other professional development and training programs in CA.
- Seek best practices on DEIA and work with partners across the bureau to initiate conversations about best practices in CA and the Department more broadly.
QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS - EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential duty. - Must be a US citizen who can possess or be able to obtain/maintain a minimum SECRET
- Must have a Bachelor's Degree and at least five (5) years of job-related experience or
- Certificates issued by educational institutions on DEIA.
- Experience facilitating challenging conversations in the workplace.
- Experience with federal laws regarding DEIA in the workplace.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, etc.).
- Excellent organizational, communication and writing skills.
- Excellent customer service skills, including customer needs assessments, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction; and
- Ability to interact effectively with others in particular, colleagues and personnel at various Department levels.
- Expert level analytical skills, especially toward evaluating the efficiency and effectiveness of program operations.
- Demonstrated proactive approach to problem-solving with strong decision-making capability.
- Demonstrated ability to achieve high performance goals and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

WORK ENVIRONMENTWork Environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be borne by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Job is performed in an office setting with exposure to computer screens and requires extensive use of a computer, keyboard, mouse, and multi-line telephone system. The work described herein is primarily a modern office setting. Occasional travel may be required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES - No supervisory responsibilities.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFYING FACTORS As a condition of employment, you will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening and have acceptable background check results. If applicable to the contract, you must also obtain the appropriate clearance levels required and be able to obtain access to military installations.
