Job Description:
Job Duties:
•Perform geologic/hydrogeologic reviews for multiple programs.
•Review remedial action plans, groundwater monitoring plans, Title 118 assessments, and other contamination assessments and technical documents.
•Follow up on reported chemical releases to the environment. Provide recommendations and review adequacy of response. Groundwater/sediments sampling as required.
•Respond to geology and groundwater questions from the public, other state agencies, federal agencies; write letters, answer phone questions, attend meetings. Prepare and present results of technical reviews using, environmental data and letters, reports or maps.
•Earn and hold a water well monitoring technician license and the OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification.

What you will do!
You will have the technical responsibility to provide the technical and scientific basis for many of decisions made by the agency. By providing geologic/hydrogeologic descriptions of settings, evaluating the impact of structures, or potential actions, predicting results or risks of actions allows management to make informed decisions. This position supports multiple programs within the agency (including but not limited to: Agriculture, Petroleum Remediation, UIC, Permits, Land Division, Drinking Water and the University of Nebraska Conservation and Survey Division) with geologic/hydrogeologic reviews. The team member would also manage sites with contamination from initiation to remedial completion and respond to chemical spills.

Location of Position: 245 Fallbrook Blvd - Suite 100 - Lincoln, NE

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday - 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Flexible schedule and 10-hour workdays maybe allowed with management approval after the probationary period.

Dress Code: Business Casual

Requirements / Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in the physical sciences, natural sciences, environmental science, geology, biology, agronomy, civil engineering, environmental engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, hydrology, community and regional planning or a related field. Experience may be substituted for education on a year for year basis.

  • Must have a valid driver's license or the ability to provide independent transportation.
  • Ability to trave overnight approximately 5-10%.
  • Ability to lift 30 pounds.
  • Must be able to work in outdoor temperature extremes.
  • Must be able to walk on uneven terrains and steep slopes to accomplish tasks.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop and climb.
  • Must be able to maintain regular and reliable attendance.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge of: State of Nebraska geology and groundwater resources; Nebraska geology and the storage and movement of groundwater as influenced by geological phenomenon; cause and effect of contamination in groundwater; governmental and private sources of information relating to water in the environment; drilling and construction techniques involved in the withdrawal of groundwater; methods for describing features of land masses including physical characteristics and distribution of plant, animal and human life.

Skill in: Communicating with individuals and groups with varying technical backgrounds to collect and relay information; listening to and understanding others; prioritizing workloads; using analytical judgment to make decisions; public speaking and providing presentations.

Ability to: Learn and apply applicable local, State and federal laws, regulations and standards; establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals in order to obtain their cooperation in the selection of water supply sources and methods of withdrawal; communicate technical information to staff members, developers and users of groundwater; assume a major role as an agency representative in statewide water management efforts.
