SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Senior AVP of Campus Operations, the Executive Director of Facilities Operations provides oversight of the Facilities department at the University of Richmond in all aspects of University maintenance, including but not limited to facilities and financial planning, energy management, project coordination and oversight of sub-contracted services. This role ensures that facilities are maintained to align with the needs of the University in a fiscally responsible manner. The Executive Director of Facilities Operations must have strong leadership skills and experience, be able to operate strategically in a very dynamic environment, customer service focus, fostering a commitment to the expectations and requirements of internal and external stakeholders. This important leadership role effectively builds cohesive teams, and successfully communicates goals and objectives to all facilities units.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leadership

  • Provides overall leadership of the six sub departments within Facilities including Engineering, Facility Operations, Maintenance Services, Landscaping, Custodial, Staff Training and Development.
  • Budget planning, development and management of business unit.
  • Performs tactical and logistical decision-making of day to day operations and for matters related to campus events such as athletic events, campus improvements, weather related impacts, utility loss, etc.
  • Staff meetings.
Day to Day Operations
  • Customer interfacing and communications.
  • Touring and inspections.
  • Quality control and team engagement.
  • Vendor engagement.
  • Emergency response.
Strategic Planning
  • Develop strategic plans and oversite of strategic initiatives that support the overall campus' Strategic Mission and Vision.
  • Implement and maintain a deferred maintenance program.
  • Monitor and track building conditions.
  • Develop capital needs and operational optimization strategies.
Support Campus Operations initiatives
  • Use of data, metrics, and trends to streamline operations and enhance performance.
  • Report development for tracking and communication at various levels of the department and campus.
  • Tracking and analysis of current conditions.
  • Facility Engineering and Operational alignment with capital projects and campus improvements.
  • Introduction of new technologies and industry best practices to support performance improvement and in support of departmental and campus goals.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL EFFORT:
  • Works in an office environment. Sedentary lifting may be required.
  • May be involved in hazardous material situations or work in extreme heat/cold situations as emergency needs dictate, including use of personal protective equipment.
  • Work may consist of climbing (such as accessing roofs), stooping, lifting up to 50 pounds, as well as sitting at desk for paperwork and keyboard tasks.
  • All Facilities employees will comply with safety standards and demonstrate safe work habits.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience working in a collaborative environment and leading diverse teams.
  • Strong written, verbal, analytical, and project management skills required.
  • Ability to manage competing complex priorities is an essential skill for managing day to day operations.
  • Requires comprehensive knowledge of financial budgets and prioritization of both current and future planning.
  • Requires thorough knowledge of technical matters and serves as a resource on building maintenance issues for others in the organization.
  • Requires a sufficient knowledge of workplace safety and other OSHA workplace regulations as well as application of appropriate building codes.
  • Requires general knowledge in computer use; including the ability to participate in electronic communication (email), create documents as necessary, use University systems and research work-related issues on the Internet.
  • A working knowledge of the following programs would be beneficial: CMMS, CAD, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Required: Must have a valid Driver's License and be able to produce a driving record with a minimum of 3 years of driving history in good standing
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Bachelor's degree required with a degree in engineering or related field preferred.
  • Ten or more years of demonstrated effectiveness in managing highly complex facilities operations.
WORK HOURS:
  • Full-time, exempt position
  • Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; 7.75 hrs./day; 38.75 hrs./week; must be available to work as needed
  • All Facilities employees are designated as essential personnel. All Facilities managers will exhibit the willingness to be available to the University in time and presence to ensure proper operation and management of plant activities.
SALARY STRUCTURE:

Pay Grade 11 (Hiring Range $103,979.00 to $142,979.00 annually)
