The Quattrone Center for the Fair Administration of Justice is a national, interdisciplinary, data-driven research and policy hub that that builds on Penn's inter-disciplinary excellence to pursue a systems approach to catalyzing long-term structural improvements to the US criminal justice system.

Since its founding in 2013, the Quattrone Center has become an established national thought leader in criminal legal reform, hosting multiple symposia and other events and regularly producing works of rigorous scholarship that have made real-world change throughout the American criminal system. Working with Academic Director and Professor of Law Paul Heaton as well as affiliated faculty from multiple schools across Penn, the Executive Director will organize and promote to a wide array of audiences the Center's activities, research, and recommendations, as well as manage a growing team of lawyers, researchers, data professionals, and experts in policy and communications.Job Description

Job Description

Programming

  • In collaboration with the Academic Director and Center-related faculty, develop and implement long- and short-term programming goals and explicit strategies to achieve them.
  • In collaboration with the Academic Director and Center-related faculty, identify and engage a diverse group of related faculty and researchers from across the University.
  • Develop and implement a calendar of conferences, symposia, workshops, and roundtables intended to move the Center's work forward and garner publicity for its research.
  • Develop and manage the Center's annual integrated programming calendar and budget.

Communications

  • Oversee the Center's external affairs strategy, including communications, policy and public relations.
  • Proactively find, develop, create, and utilize opportunities to communicate the Quattrone Center's activities to a wide array of audiences.

Fundraising

  • Partner with the Penn Carey Law Office of Development and Alumni Relations to develop and implement fundraising for Center activities. Identify and cultivate prospects; with pre-approval of DAR and the Dean, solicit gifts; and engage in stewardship activities.
  • Assist Center-related faculty and Penn Carey Law Business Affairs with proposals for fundraising to foundations, government and other funding sources.

Management

  • Oversee the management of the Quattrone Center's Assistant Directors and additional staff, adapting to the Center's evolving research portfolio.
  • In partnership with the Academic Director, coordinate efforts of the Quattrone Center Advisory Board to engage with and support the Center's work.
  • In partnership with the Academic Director, develop, implement, and review the Center's annual budget.
  • Oversee and manage the Center's grant portfolio. Work with Business Affairs to review monthly budget reports and provide required reporting to sponsors.

Additional Opportunities

  • Contingent on qualifications, curricular needs, and faculty approval, position may allow for teaching or co-teaching in the Penn Carey Law program

Qualifications

  • Minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in criminal justice, with a proven track record in managerial and programming roles.
  • Strong understanding of diverse audience needs and experience in representing complex organizations in various public and internal contexts.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement long-term programming and effective planning and budgeting processes.
  • Experience in managing diverse stakeholders and leading large-scale projects with a collaborative approach.
  • Exceptional analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize data and articulate insights through various written styles.
  • Proven track record of collaboration within a department and across a larger institution.
  • J.D. and fundraising experience are preferred.
