During the program, you play an active role in developing new materials and applications as well as continuously improving our existing product portfolio for various product segments in the specialty chemicals and high-tech materials business. Your Role:

The GoGlobal Program within our Electronics division is currently looking for an R&D Chemist or Chemical Engineer based in Carlsbad, CA, to collaborate with our Thin Film Solutions Team. We are seeking an individual with hands-on laboratory experience in molecule synthesis to join our dynamic team in Carlsbad, CA. The successful candidate will develop a synthetic technique for a new precursor molecule that is actively being scaled from benchtop to 100 kg per year quantities due to successful customer application results. The candidate will be responsible for design of experiments and optimization of run conditions for a pyrolysis reaction method working as part of an integrated team of researchers to support the new product synthesis, with most of their time being hands-on laboratory work. The role involves working closely with synthesis, analytical, scale-up, and commercial teams to ensure rapid delivery of the material. This role will mainly use lab bench scale equipment to conduct experimental trials of synthetic conditions and then build a pilot scale reactor with supporting equipment for reactant feed and product collection. They will prepare samples for analysis and work with the New Product Development chemical engineers to purify the material by distillation.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree or Ph. D. in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
  • Strong synthetic chemistry background, particularly silicon chemistry
  • Theoretical and operational understanding of analytical techniques, such as GC, GC/MS, IR
  • Knowledge of fundamentals and practical experience in the use of statistics
  • Hands-on experience in operating laboratory and pilot scale reaction equipment
  • Experience handling air and/or moisture sensitive materials in purge/glove boxes
  • Ability to analyze and develop solutions for open-ended problems
  • Experience with experimental design and optimizing product quality and yield
  • Excellent interpersonal skills that support a diverse team environment
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills
  • Must demonstrate creativity and strong problem-solving skills
  • Experience handling of air and moisture sensitive materials and understanding of analytical methods such as gas chromatography, mass spectroscopy and IR spectroscopy

Pay Range for this position - $49,500 - $148,900

Our ranges incorporate all levels and career types available within this specific role, and are derived from relevant industry market data.
