Eskenazi Health serves as the public hospital division of the Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County. Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 333-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus including at a network of Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.

Job Role Summary
The Greeter interacts with all internal and external customers in a caring and respectful manner. This position is the key to maintaining the operational flow of incoming patients, visitors, and deliveries.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
• Proactively contributes to Eskenazi Health's mission: Advocate, Care, Teach and Serve with special emphasis on the vulnerable population of Marion County. Models Eskenazi Health values of Professionalism, Respect, Innovation, Development and Excellence
• Interacts with all internal and external customers in a caring and respectful manner
• Assists patients using problem solving skills
• Key to maintaining the operational flow of front desk operations
• Serves as the staff member to greet, direct, and assist a patient who presents to the check in area
• Alters activities/behaviors to reflect and ensure adequate service appropriate to the age of patients served (i.e. pediatric, adolescent, and adult)
• Assists with answering multiple phone lines, scheduling appointments, assembling, gathering and entering demographic information
• Serves as the first contact a patient experiences when entering the building and utilizes appropriate customer service skills
• Performs a variety of clerical and patient service duties necessary to maintain efficient flow of operations in the medical office
• Thinks quickly and reacts calmly while multi-tasking in a fast paced environment
• Answers phone lines within company guidelines, routes callers to appropriate destination, answers questions, and schedules appointments.
• Sorts, organizes mail, distributes to specific department mailboxes.
• Coordinates deliveries with the shipping and receiving staff for deliveries
• Thoroughly and accurately assist with the completion of the triage form and routes to Triage Nurse.
• Recognizes and responds to signs of patients in emergent distress and directs to appropriate clinical staff
Job Requirements
• High School diploma or equivalent (GED)
• Minimum of 6 months of clerical experience in hospital or health care setting preferred
• Minimum of 6 months health care insurance experience preferred
• Data entry experience
• Minimum typing speed of 30 WPM
• Previous customer service experience preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
• Knowledge of clinic processes
• Must pass multiple system application exams
• Working knowledge of multiple insurance plans and networks
• Alpha/numeric filing skills
• Strong computer knowledge and skills with a minimum typing speed of 30 WPM
• Effective oral/written communication skills, including the ability to communicate with patients in a manner conducive to the patient's age and developmental stage
• Ability to:
o Operate standard office equipment
o Work effectively under pressure of high patient volume
o Communicate tactfully/pleasantly with public and all level of personnel
o Be flexible to changing work duties and priorities
o Follow oral/written instructions
o Provide excellent customer service
o Navigate multiple system applications
