EMERGENCY DEPT SERVICES (BILLINGS CLINIC HOSPITAL)

Employment Status: Full-Time (.75 or greater)
Hours per Pay Period: 0.90 = 72 hours (Non-Exempt)
Starting Wage DOE: $22.78 - 28.48/hr

Responsible for assisting with patient care tasks in accordance with scope of practice and under the direction or supervision of the medical director. Provides direct and indirect patient care. Communicates with physicians/Registered Nurse/Nurse Manager/co-workers, as appropriate about changes in patient's clinical condition including results of diagnostic studies and symptomatology. Is able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Performs patient care in the Emergency Department and ground medical transports within the defined scope of practice for specific education/certification level and as directed or supervised by the charge nurse and/or physician. Complies with applicable State of Montana rules and regulations, Emergency Department and Billings Clinic policies and procedures.
2. Ensures adequate supply stocking. Informs appropriate personnel of equipment needing repair and initiates work requisitions.
3. Actively participates in covering the staffing needs of the department.
a. Utilizes performance improvement principles to assess and improve quality.
4. Identifies needs and sets goals for own growth and development; meets all mandatory organizational and departmental requirements.
5. Maintains competency in all organizational, departmental and outside agency safety standards relevant to job performance.

Able to perform and document urine dip, urine pregnancy tests and point of care blood glucose
Ability to adequately reassess pain. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques. Educates the patient and family regarding pain

Knowledge of medications and their correct administration, based on age of the patient and their clinical condition and per EMS core curriculum.
Follows the five (5) medication rights.
Demonstrates an ability to assist physicians with procedures and performs services requiring technical and manual skills.
Answers patients' call lights, anticipates patients' needs and makes safety rounds of patients.
Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of
Interacts professionally with patient/family.
Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and the skills necessary to provide age appropriate care to the patient population served. Able to interpret data about the patient's status in order to identify each patient's age specific needs and provide
Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
Communicates appropriately and clearly to Registered Nurse, Nurse Manager, co-workers and physicians.
Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.
Documentation meets current standards and policies.
Manages and operates equipment safely
Collaborates in the coordination of patient care as necessary.
Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.

Minimum Qualifications
Education
2 Year / Associate Degree - AAS in Paramedic Medicine

Experience
3 years of prior experience in an applicable field within the last 5 years

Certifications and Licenses
BLS, ACLS & PALS Certification required
PHTLS or TPATC, preferred
NRP, STABLE, preferred
Montana license/certification as a Paramedic

Other Minimum Qualifications
Current Montana Drivers license and the ability to be insured to operate BC vehicles
Must be free of motion sickness or free from a reoccurring history of motion sickness which may interfere with patient care of a critical patient with limited personnel available.
Must be able to perform minimum qualifications of MedFlight EMT - Basic/Intermediate Level I
Additional scope of practice responsibilities:
Basic and Advanced airway maneuvers, including intubation, LMA, video layngoscopy, and cricothyroidotomy
Medication knowledge and administration
Pharmacology indications/contraindications/side effects
IV Medication administration per protocol
Critical care Medications including ACLS drugs, vasoactive medications
IV Pump knowledge/utilization
12- Lead EKG knowledge/interpretation/communication
Stroke knowledge/identification/communication
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience relating to the above tasks, knowledge, skills and abilities will be considered
