Mercer is seeking candidates for the following position that can be based out of several Mercer offices including: Boston(preferred), King of Prussia, St. Louis, Atlanta or Sacramento.

Head of Trading Operations

What can you expect?

  • The Head of the Trading will be responsible for the development and execution of trading strategies to maximize profitability while managing risk effectively.
  • Lead and manage a team of traders, providing guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure optimal performance.
  • Monitor market trends, analyze data, and identify opportunities for trading activities.
  • Collaborate with other departments, such as risk management, compliance, and research, to ensure alignment and adherence to regulatory requirements and company policies.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including clients, brokers, and exchanges, to facilitate smooth trading operations.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry developments, market conditions, and regulatory changes that may impact trading activities.
  • Implement and optimize trading systems and technologies to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Monitor and evaluate trading performance, identifying areas for improvement and implementing necessary changes.
  • Develop and maintain trading policies, procedures, and controls to ensure compliance and mitigate operational risks.

We will count on you to:
  • Lead a team of 30 trading investment professionals across the US.
  • Demonstrate ownership on assigned events and drive to completion
  • Develop and maintain detailed project plans for large initiatives impacting your functional teams
  • Partner with several 3rd party vendors including, State Street, Charles River, Investment Metrics, and more.
  • Oversee and develop enhanced Operational Risk reviews required for trading and execution
  • Partner with the Portfolio Management Team for the fulfilment of trade requirements
  • Work with operational stakeholders to ensure that all client set up requirements are considered and executed efficiently and in a risk-controlled environment
  • Collaborate with the Mercer Investment client's custodians and banks to ensure accurate records and a proper control environment.
  • Provide white-glove support to clients while leading their onboarding to Mercer
  • Communicate and document allocation and trade results
  • Responsible for providing operational support to new discretionary client accounts via operational team members
  • Be risk-aware and contribute to culture of continuous improvement

What you need to have:
  • A minimum of 15 years of experience in Asset Management including fund accounting and/or custodial oversight, OCIO or advisory management operations, portfolio operations or client services, and a track record of progress and development. (Client facing experience a plus)
  • Bachelor degree in accounting, finance, business or related field of study preferred (advanced degree or relevant certifications a plus)
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced environment where adherence to procedures and controls is critical
  • Strong understanding of Investment Management concepts and operational mechanics of investment vehicles
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills, clear and effective communication, both written and oral; ability to multi-task
  • Positive attitude & proven ability to work well in a team oriented environment, while maintaining ownership over individual responsibilities
  • Strong performance in leading a project, a team, or an initiative
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office

What makes you stand out:
  • Broad knowledge of Investment Management concepts, investment vehicles, and operational mechanics of institutional portfolios
  • Any experience or knowledge of Defined Contribution Plans
  • Experience managing transitions of alternative products and managing to liquidity constraints

The applicable base salary range for this role is $129,600 to $259,200.

The base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and any applicable minimum wage requirements. Decisions will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
