Title: Instructor 12 Month/Director of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (Tenure Track)

Job Summary:

The Director is responsible for the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program which grants technical certificates. The Director will lead, supervise, manage, and implement all aspects of the program, including classroom and online course development and instruction, curriculum development, marketing, recruitment and advising of students, budgeting, and faculty supervision and support, and revision/modification of all program components as needed. Position includes teaching responsibilities, including clinical practicum and capstone courses.

The Program Director holds a 12-month faculty position with release time each term based on the size of the program, as determined by the Dean and VPAA. This position is responsible for delivering quality instruction using integrative technologies. Faculty are expected to provide academic advising to students and participate in college, department, and community activities related to the College's mission.

Job Duties:

Teach 38-42 TLE per year via on ground, online, hybrid or web-enhanced modalities as assigned with both teaching and approved release time included in this expectation. Typically, program directors receive 3 TLE release time per term. Teach evening, weekend, off-campus, dual enrollment, and distance-based courses as required. Develop curriculum; evaluate and review of credit and non-credit courses; develop online classes as needed. Evaluate and monitor progress to achieve goals and objectives (and those by any licensing, registering, or certifying agency as applicable); assist with affiliation and accreditation efforts. Recruit and advise students and support persistence/progression through graduation. Maintain office hours and availability to students. Complete required College trainings. Complete all required reports such as attendance, Early Alerts, progress reports, grade submissions and administer and return surveys by the required deadlines. Attend college, division, department, and faculty meetings. Serve on college and department committees. Attend professional development activities. Participate in community service. Ensure compliance with all Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) and College policies, guidelines, licensure requirements, and other state and federal guidelines. In addition to the typical faculty responsibilities above, the Director of Diagnostic Medical Sonography program is expected to: Direct, supervise, manage, and implement the overall operation of the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program. Interview, hire, supervise, and evaluate program faculty and ensure adequate staffing for the program courses. Establish annual program goals including curriculum development, implementation, and assessment. Lead and coordinate all accreditation activities and documentation for the program, including but not limited to staying current with requirements and completing self-studies, site visits, and annual reports. Market the program, recruit and advise students into the program and provide academic and career advisement for prospective and current students. Coordinate an advisory committee to support the program, hold annual or semi-annual meetings, and ensure documentation of all advisory committee activities. Monitor and analyze data pertinent to students' successful academic performance and ensure completion of VSCC's Academic Program Review for Diagnostic Medical Sonography program. Complete and coordinate program's TBR Academic Audit. Manage online course delivery by ensuring all model courses are current. Manage textbooks including working with departmental committees during the review process, coordinating with publishers, negotiating purchase packages, and organizing demonstrations and training for electronic resources. Plan, conduct, and document regular departmental meetings. Oversee student complaint resolution by ensuring that student discipline and complaint policy and procedures are followed, meet with students and coordinate with the Dean and/or Student Services personnel in mediating resolution. Develop, promulgate, implement, and monitor policies and procedures related to program equipment and laboratories that are consistent with Vol State and TBR policy. Develop, monitor, and maintain department budgets. Maintain parts and supplies inventory, ordering parts and supplies and keeping related records. Recommend purchase of new equipment and submit appropriate purchase and/or TAF requests following Vol State and department procedures. Network with industry personnel to assist in promotion of the college and its programs and the securing of guest speakers and adjunct faculty. Maintain the program accreditation through the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) upon recommendation of Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRC-DMS); supervises and directs required reporting to state and national agencies. Oversee use of facilities and equipment for day, evening, and weekend classes offered by the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program. Act as liaison between students, sponsoring agencies, local medical community, and state level certifying/licensing agency as needed. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Possess a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution.
Possess at a minimum the ARDMS credential of RDMS with registries in Abdomen and OB/GYN.
Have documented experience in supervision, instruction, evaluation, student guidance and in educational theories and techniques. Note: Documentation of experience in educational theories and techniques may include completed college courses, seminars, or in-service sessions on topics including, but not limited to, learning theory, curriculum design, test construction, teaching methodology, or assessment techniques.
Possess a minimum of two years of experience as a registered sonographer in the professional sonography field.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's Degree from an accredited institution.
Additional registries in Cardiac Sonography (RDCS).
Collegiate level teaching experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge and/or experience using a variety of instructional delivery modes.
Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student population.
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

Pay Rate: $63,290 - $79,112 annual salary depending on experience
