Primary Role

To perform a variety of tasks to assist in the efficient and reliable operation, maintenance, cleaning, protection, hydrants, valves, and other appurtenances within the production facilities.

Key Accountabilities

  • Erects barricades, places safety lights and other warning devices around worksites to protect workers from street traffic and to warn motorists and pedestrians of hazard. Occasional
  • Breaks up; pavement using pavement breakers, pry bars, shovels, picks and other hand tools to dig excavations preparatory to removing and or repairing pipe. Occasional
  • Maneuvers pipe sections, valves and fittings into position and holds steady while connections are tightened. Occasional
  • Assists in the cutting, threading, brazing, and soldering of pipe as directed. Occasional
  • Assists in making taps. Occasional
  • Drives vehicles as required. Frequent
  • Assists in the installation/removal of shoring systems as required. Occasional
  • Follows established safety guidelines and procedures. Constant
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge/Skills

  • Perform manual labor activities including standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling.
  • Lift items weighing 50 to 90 lbs. frequently and occasionally over 90 lbs.
  • Carry items weighing 50 to 90 lbs. frequently and occasionally over 90 lbs.
  • Perform tightening and loosening activities involving various size bolts frequently.
  • Climb into and out of excavations, vaults and excavations 4+ feet in depth using a ladder.
  • Bending, kneeling, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, feeling, talking, hearing, and seeing. - Drive company vehicles and operate two-way communication system.
  • Operate heavy machinery such as air compressor, jack hammer, ditch pump, and tamping machine.
  • Work outdoors in all kinds of weather.
  • Follow all established safety guidelines and procedures.
  • MATH SKILLS:
    • Requires mathematical development sufficient to be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide units of measure.
  • LANGUAGE SKILLS:
    • Must have developed language skills to the point to be able to read at least at a minimum level.
    • Write legibly.
    • Speak clearly and distinctly with appropriate pauses, emphasis and correct pronunciation. Must be able to communicate using two-way radio and other communication equipment.
  • RELATIONSHIPS TO DATA, PEOPLE, AND THINGS:
    • Data: Copying, or entering data.
    • People: Serving: Attending to the needs, requests, or the expressed or implicit wishes of people. Immediate response is involved. Speaking or signaling: Talking with and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information. Includes giving directions to helpers or assistance, and communicate with customers.
    • Things: Manipulating: Using body members, tools, or special devices to work, move, guide, or place objects or materials. Involves some latitude for judgment with regard to precision attained and selecting appropriate tool, object, or material although this is readily manifest.

Experience/Education

  • Specific vocational preparation:
    • Specific vocational preparation includes an occupationally significant combination of: vocational education, apprentice training, in-plant training, on-the job training, or essential experience.
  • To do this job you must have the following amount of total education and/or experience:
    • High school graduate or state recognized educational equivalency certificate.
  • To do this job you must have the following licenses or certifications before being hired:
    • Grade IV Water Treatment Plant Certification and maintain a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

Work Schedule

  • Employee works 8 hours per day, 5 days per week, during a normal work week and also include vacancies for Process Technicians on a four week rotating shift basis.
  • Normal work hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Work Environment

  • 20% or more of the normal work day the employee is exposed to the following conditions:
  • Confined Areas: Entering excavations or large meter vaults.
  • Exposed to Weather: Work is outside and inside.
  • Wet: Contact with water and other liquids.
  • Humidity: Atmospheric condition with moisture content sufficiently high to cause marked bodily discomfort.
  • Extreme Temperatures: Exposed to ambient temperature extremes both hot and cold.
  • Chemicals: Gasoline, oil, sewer, or substances in the soil.
  • Allergenics/Irritants: Potential exposure to poison ivy, oak, sumac, insects, etc.
  • Potential Hazards: Driving, working in traffic, working with and around excavation equipment, compressed air.
  • Customer Contact: Limited customer contact.
  • Noise Exposure: Jackhammer, air compressor, trash pumps, gas tamp.
  • Vibrations: Using jackhammer, gas tamps.
  • Other: Working or driving in darkness.
