Job Summary

The Machining Services Production Supervisor will direct, supervise and coordinate second shift production. They will provide direction to subordinates guided by established policies and engineering standards. As the direct point of contact for hourly staff they will interpret, communicate and execute policies. This role will also serve as the off-shift leader with responsibilities also supporting distribution and shipping activities.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage the utilization of manpower, skills, hours, material, and the workflow to assure timely production and quality standards.


  • Organize and assign work.


  • Instruct, guide, and assist employees in the performance of their work.


  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on campus such as Engineering and Assembly to improve quality and efficiency within the machining department.


  • Lead the review of defective parts and implement corrective actions.


  • Implement and monitor productivity improvements such as cycle time improvements and cost savings opportunities.


  • Verifies that all methods of operation and ISO procedures are maintained and followed. Keeps these effective programs updated with changes.


  • Ensure the use and upkeep of safety devices and equipment.


  • Supervise departmental housekeeping and maintain a constant alertness for hazardous conditions.


  • Maintain conformance with company work rules and regulations. Issue warnings for violations and administer approved disciplinary measures when necessary.


  • Assist with basic CNC machine troubleshooting.


  • Familiarity with Logistics operations and ODOT regulations


  • Manage Machining hourly teams. Support the management of shipping and distribution teams during final hours of split shift.


  • Demonstrate strong leadership by leading by example.


  • Manage production related supplies.


  • Other duties as assigned.


Education and Experience Requirements

  • Associate degree in Sciences, Engineering or relevant field is preferred.


  • In lieu of a degree 8 years related industrial experience will be considered.


  • 5 years in a manufacturing environment or 3 years in a machining environment.


  • 2 years of prior supervisory experience or 4 years as a team lead.


Preferred Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.


  • Skillful in the use of a variety of metal machining tools & precision measuring devices to cut, grind and shape metal and plastic parts into conformance within specified dimensions.


  • CNC and G Code programming a plus


  • Impartial and honest in dealing with subordinates.


  • Possess a working knowledge of machining and chemical processing for cleaning and plating.


  • Self-starter and independent worker.


  • ERP knowledge - SAP preferred.


  • Ability to apply LEAN and Six Sigma concepts.


  • Strong computer skills including MS Suite
