GHD has an exciting opportunity for a Mid-Level Maritime and Coastal Structural Engineer based from a flexible location in the Gulf region.

The GHD Maritime and Coastal (M&C) Engineering Service Line provides professional services to clients who have vested interests in managing the life cycle of maritime and coastal assets. Our Team is comprised of industry leaders who are dedicated to delivering sustainable solutions to sensitive projects while enhancing the environmental value and asset functionality. Our M&C group is quickly growing into a powerhouse in the maritime and coastal industry throughout North America. We offer planning, design, and construction services for a wide array of maritime facilities, shorelines, and associated infrastructure. Key clients include major ports spanning from Texas to Florida, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the U.S. Coast Guard. Our innovative approaches and expertise allow us to deliver client-led solutions that result in sustainable, attractive, and cost-effective developments along our coasts and shorelines.

The Mid-Level Marine Structural Engineer candidate will have experience within the realm of marine structural engineering and will continue to learn to provide support to GHD's Maritime and Coastal Service Line. Candidates will have the ability to work in an office environment, remotely, hybrid, and in the field (as necessary).

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Provide structural engineering support for M&C projects to produce accurate and constructible plans, details, and technical specifications
  • Lead structural design for M&C projects including seawalls, bulkheads, foundations, docks, piers, marinas, wharves, and mooring dolphins.
  • Perform structural analysis and calculations of M&C structures for new construction, expansions, and existing structural assessments. Includes modeling using industry leading software
  • Coordinate and work with multi-disciplined teams on other M&C related projects
  • Participate in fieldwork that may include site investigations, surveys, data collection, monitoring, and construction oversight to verify conformance with contract documents
  • Create, edit, and review technical content for studies, reports, proposals, specifications, technical memorandums, and opinions of probable construction cost
  • Assist with creation of project proposals, scopes, budgets, and schedules
  • Manage M&C Projects
  • Manage existing and new M&C Clients
  • Stay current and informed on M&C market trends, client spending, assets, resiliency, and logistics
  • Mentor Junior staff within the M&C Service line
  • Ability to communicate with a team of coastal engineers/ modelers/ environmental professionals/ stakeholders/ clients, in person and remotely across the globe.
  • Interest in and contribution to writing papers, attending conferences, and furthering the technical growth of the maritime & coastal service line.
  • Participate in local technical and M&C related professional organizations

Minimum Qualifications:
  • BS in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Structural Engineering. Masters beneficial but not essential
  • 4 to 8+ years of experience
  • Professional Engineer (PE) or ability to get within 1 year
  • Basic understanding of heavy civil, industrial, and coastal construction methods
  • Knowledgeable in design and analysis of concrete, timber, and steel structures
  • Understanding of geotechnical engineering principals, foundation design, and field investigations
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, MATLAB, Mathcad, and AutoCAD
  • Experience with finite element modeling and nonlinear foundations, soil/structure interaction, staged construction, and lateral force resisting systems
  • Basic understanding of seismic design principles
  • Knowledge and experience with structural design and analysis tools such as SAP2000, RISA, LPILE, and Shoring Suite
  • Knowledge of engineering codes and guidelines
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written, including report writing.
  • Ability to perform structural condition assessments and field investigations with guidance
  • Experience with design, construction, and inspection of heavy civil and industrial projects
  • Ability to communicate well with municipality, utility, government, and other regulatory agencies
  • Ability to lead structural design of M&C projects
  • High ethical standards and a commitment to safety
