Position Overview

The Mechanical Design Engineer researches, plans and develops new designs or design modifications to existing equipment and facilities to meet production requirements. The qualified candidate must be experienced in the areas of tool, fixture, and machine design. This position requires a self-starter who can take a project from concept through implementation.

Responsibilities and Duties: (*Indicates an Essential Function)

  • Works with Facilities, Process Engineers, Maintenance, and Manufacturing to determine design requirements.
  • Interfaces with outside vendors for component selection, manufacturing, and assembly.
  • Makes necessary calculations and investigates pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials, and cost.
  • Responsible for the selection and proper application of materials and tool and machine components such as fasteners, bearings, power transmission, and fluid power components.
  • Prepares preliminary, detail and final assembly drawings of devices, mechanisms, and assemblies.
  • Responsible for the proper application of fits and tolerances.
  • Designs facility modifications; updates and maintains facility and equipment layouts, process piping and utility drawings.
  • Responsible for projects from concept to final design and implementation; troubleshoots when required.
  • Organize and maintain new and existing engineering drawings.
  • Works under limited direction with considerable discretion as to work details.

Qualifications

  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering and 3 to 5 years' related experience.
  • Proficient in 3D CAD modeling (Creo preferred) and AutoCAD.
  • Experienced in the areas of tool, fixture, and machine design.
  • Strong knowledge of structural components, power transmission, welding, and materials.
  • Strong Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing GD&T.
  • Experience with P&ID diagrams, HVAC, and facility layouts a plus.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
