Duties: The Medical Records Assistant will be responsible for ensuring that the medical record information maintains its quality, accuracy, accessibility, and security in both paper files and electronic systems. The Medical Records Assistant will use various classification systems to code and categorize patient diagnoses information as well as medical and treatment histories. This information is used for insurance, legal and retrospective studies purposes.
Qualifications: A High School Diploma or GED and 2 years to 3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required which include:
Knowledge of medical terminology required
Strong electronic data entry skills; able to type at least 60 wpm
Experience with SNOMED CT preferred
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills both written and verbal; ability to interact positively with the public and staff in a professional manner
Must be productive, take initiative and capable of working independently as well as part of a team
Excellent attention to detail and multi-tasking skills
Ability to adapt and work well in a fast-paced environment
Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions
Possess good analytical and troubleshooting skills
Ability to project excellent customer service in-person and over the phone
Excellent time management and organizational skills
Ability to strictly adhere to compliance audit policy and maintain medical records confidentiality
Knowledge of operating computers and office machinery
Must have the ability to adhere to professional standards, hospital policies and procedures
