Per Diem

Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Donor Recruitment Supervisor, the employee operates passenger coach vehicles, Blood Donor Van and Blood Mobile in accordance with an assignment schedule . Responsible for the overall maintenances, permitting and licensing of vehicle. Inspects, maintains, and operates vehicles as mandated by Partners Healthcare System policies, and applicable federal, state, and local laws. Organizes and reviews directions to ensure efficiency and accuracy. Assists Blood Donor Collection staff in the care of donors before, during and after WB collection. Performs post-collection handling of whole blood units, packaging and placing packs in cooler for transport. Assists the Charge RN with adverse donor reactions, both on the bus and inside the sponsor's work site. Calls Emergency Medical Services when necessary. Ensures safety of donors and staff during bus drives.

-Inspects vehicles at the beginning and end of each shift to ensure operating effectiveness. (A walk-around inspection of all safety-related items is included in the inspection.)
-Assesses and reports any bus damage, inoperative or inoperable bus equipment to the Donor Recruitment Supervisor, Administrative Director Joint Program in Transfusion Medicine Brigham and Women's Hospital and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Nursing Director- Kraft Family Blood Donor Center immediately
-Maintains the safety and integrity of the interior of the vehicle while the vehicle is under operator's control.
-Transports donor staff safely to the Blood Donation site on an established route as needed.
-When arriving at destinations, levels the bus with leveling jacks, checks the wheels, puts the stairs down at the entrance, removes all snow and ice from bus stairs, whenever necessary, to ensure the safety of the donors and the staff.
-Set up and maintains snack supplies in donor refreshment area
-Oversees van maintenance/cleaning in accordance with donor center policy, including licensing documentation

Qualifications

  • High school diploma
  • Current valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL), Class B with an Air Brake Endorsement.
  • Undergoes physical examinations required by CDL regulations (conducted by Employee Health Service)
