Network Department of Family Medicine Vice Chair for Operations
Assistant Professor/Associate Professor/Professor
The Department of Family Medicine at The Larner College of Medicine (LCOM) at the University of Vermont (UVM) is seeking a Family Medicine Physician to fill the role of Network Vice Chair of Operations (VCO) in the Department of Family Medicine. This appointment will be at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level (1.0 FTE) in the Clinical Scholar Pathway. Advanced training in Health Care Systems, Finance, and Business are preferred (i.e. MBA, Masters in Health Care Administration).
The Network Department of Family Medicine at the University of Vermont is a leader in innovative care delivery. In primary care, we implemented a unified, network- wide transition from a traditional Fee for Service (FFS) model to a Risk Adjusted Panel, Population Health-based model of care. Implementation is almost complete, including an associated physician compensation model for FY25 based on Observed to Expected Risk-Adjusted Panel Size. We are leveraging centralized resources with our network partners in our Population Health Service Organization (PHSO) to work towards care gap closure, improving quality of care, and ultimately improving the health of the populations we serve. We are also leveraging digital tools, including implementation of AI-Assisted Ambient Note Writing technology, digital provider of the day models, and EHR- based digital tools to improve access to care. This is an exciting time to be at the University of Vermont in the Department of Family Medicine.
The Network Department of Family Medicine includes 4 Divisions: The Network Division of Dental Medicine, The Network Division of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, The Network Division of Urgent Care, and The Network Division of Primary Care Medical Homes (PCMH). The VCO will have 50% clinical effort (approximately 4 sessions per week) in the Primary Care Medical Home within the Department of Family Medicine at our Family Medicine- Milton clinical site, the home of our robust, full scope Family Medicine Residency Program. The VCO will be provided with nonclinical time allocation (50% FTE) to achieve the roles and responsibilities across the following domains: 1) Assist the Chair in all UVMHN, UVMMG, and Department of FM strategic priorities and initiatives. 2) Lead Physician Recruitment and HR oversight across the network for all divisions, 3) Support Clinical Operations and Network Department Project Management, 4) Develop Network Operational Budget and DFM Compensation Model Annually with the Chair, the Network Department Operations Team, and Financial Specialists, 5) Provide oversight of financial performance of the integrated department, 6) Provide Network Department of Family Medicine Quality oversight, and 7) Act as the Department Liaison to the Population Health Service Organization (PHSO) and Network High Value Care (HCV) team.
The VCO will join a robust senior leadership team in the Network Department of Family Medicine and support the academic mission of the department through the lens of Clinical Affairs and Operations. The Network VCO will serve as a Network Position. The position will report directly to the Chair and will support the Chair. Direct reports include the Network Department Quality Lead and the Network Department Lead Informaticist.
At least 5 years leadership experience in Clinical Affairs/Operations is recommended.
