Position Overview:

The Paralegal will primarily focus on corporate governance, litigation, commercial deal structuring, and compliance, while also providing some administrative support as needed. Reporting to the Associate General Counsel, the selected candidate will offer comprehensive legal support across key functions within the Motiva Legal Department.

Success in this role hinges on the ability to build strong working relationships and collaborate effectively across departments and cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate will bring a solid foundation in legal support while demonstrating flexibility to assist with administrative tasks when needed. This position offers the chance to work on diverse legal matters and administrative functions within a dynamic and team-oriented environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with ensuring compliance with all laws and regulations and organizational policies, procedures, and all corporate governance management.
  • Assist with tracking outside counsel expenses and legal matter budgets.
  • Manage Motiva's corporate records.
  • Review, analyze, interpret Non-Disclosure Agreements ("NDAs") and manage the process from beginning to end - responsible for uploading NDAs in Apttus.
  • Maintain matters in Legal Tracker and Legal Hold systems.
  • Facilitate new matter intake, service of process intake, issuance of preservation notices and response to subpoenas.
  • Manage the tender process of new matters (opening the tender matter, drafting response and claim notice).
  • Perform legal and factual research.
  • Support the review, analysis, drafting and managing of various business entity documents.

Experience and Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Paralegal Studies, Legal Studies, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of practical paralegal experience within an in-house legal department or a major law firm.
  • Exceptional writing skills with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively in both legal and business contexts.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint, Outlook).
  • Familiarity with legal software such as Legal Tracker (formerly Serengeti Tracker), OpenText Legal Hold, Practical Law, SalesForce (Apttus), AdobePro, and DocuSign.
  • Hands-on experience with tools such as Ariba and SA, if applicable.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with legal colleagues, business clients, and both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Discretion and professionalism in handling confidential and sensitive information.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail.

Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Paralegal certification from an accredited institution is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage legal projects within the oil and gas domain.
