Position Title: Peer Mentor - Student Life (Temporary, Part-Time, up to 19.5 hours per week)

Department: West Campus - Student Life

Rate of Pay: $14.35/hour [Rate of pay to increase to $15.00/hour in January 2025]

Closed Date: November 30, 2024; 5:00PM Arizona Time

Position Summary:

Anticipated start date for this position is January 2025 (training to take place in December 2024),

Student Life is looking for a Peer Mentor to work, on campus, in the West Campus Student Life Center. Peer Mentors will work closely with the Student Life Coordinator at that campus to successfully run the Student Life Centers and provide quality student engagement programming.

PCC students who serve as Peer Mentors will be expected to attend and participate in Student Life and Pima Community College assigned trainings prior to and during their work assignments. Peer Mentors may be asked to support other Student Affairs programming as needed (FYE-First Year Experience; New Student Orientation, High School Outreach, etc.) or other Student Services initiatives for new students throughout the semester. Peer Mentors will need to have the flexibility to travel to more than one campus for work assignments, when needed, and will also support other Student Affairs programming, college-wide.

Student employees must be actively enrolled students throughout the duration of their term of student employment. In order to be eligible for this position, you are required to be an actively enrolled student at Pima Community College during the time of employment. This position is considered a student employment opportunity and thus is not eligible for the tuition waiver provided by the college.

The work schedule for this position may include occasional evening and weekend events. The priority for scheduling hours will be during the Center's open hours, Spring 2025: 9am-4pm, Monday thru Thursday.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Peer Mentors will assist with the following, which may include but not limited to:

  • Peer Mentors will be a major support in the Student Life area through being part of staff scheduling and oversight of the physical Student Life areas, which includes:
    • Greeting students professionally in person or by phone in the Student Life Centers
    • Ensuring that students sign in and out of the Student Life Centers via AccuSequel
    • Answering phones
    • Updating bulletin boards and post approved flyers
    • Data entry
    • Email
    • Tabling/recruitment
    • Greeting students, staff, and visitors
    • Handing out information and answering questions for students and staff in regards to clubs, leadership, fundraisers, and travel etc
    • Be responsible for maintaining organization in Student Life areas, restocking as needed, cleaning the center, and creating an inventory of supplies
    • Office duties; scan/copy documents, check the interoffice mailbox, run errands inner campus and off-campus, etc
    • Performing price checks for event/center supply items via online or store comparisons
  • Supporting the operation of the Student Life Office in a professional manner that follows the College Mission and Vision
  • Assisting with the planning of Student Life activities and events. This includes:
    • Creating flyers and social media posts to promote the events
    • Helping students check in to the event through PimaEngage
    • Setup and takedown of the event equipment, chairs, tables, etc
    • Leading a small group of students in discussions and icebreakers at programming events
    • Distributing co-curricular evaluations
    • Keeping track of all evaluations on Google Drive
    • Following up with students after Student Life events to answer questions
  • Helping students and student organizations navigate college processes, such as:
    • Utilizing digital resources such as MyPima, PimaEngage, or D2L
    • How to complete college paperwork
    • How to connect with an advisor, counselor, or student life coordinator
  • Attending meetings including, but not limited to; weekly 1:1's with supervisor, Student Affairs meetings, and event planning meetings
  • Providing tours of the PCC campuses
  • Knowing about and promoting with students opportunities to build connections to the College through Student Life, student organizations, leadership opportunities, how to get involved, and the value of student engagement
Leadership and Civic Engagement
  • Assisting in the planning and implementation of Student Affairs workshops/events and Student Life leadership programming
  • Assisting with the assessment and evaluation of programming events
Job Requirements:
  • High school diploma or General Equivalency Degree (GED)
  • Registered for at least 6 credits at PCC the prior semester, Fall 2024 (or Summer 2024)
  • Achieve satisfactory academic progress
  • Registered for at least 6 credits at PCC in the Spring 2025 semester
  • Available to work flexible shifts and at multiple campus locations, when needed
  • No violations of the Student Code Of Conduct
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds, stand for one hour or more, sit, squat, bend, and reach for files and/or supplies
Preferred:
  • Achieve satisfactory academic progress of 2.5 GPA or higher

  • Experience with PCC student organizations, leadership opportunities, service learning projects, college employment, and/or experience working with high school or college students; OR customer service experience
  • Professional and positive role model

  • Manage own time and work independently
  • Clear and concise verbal and written communication
  • Microsoft Office Programs, Google Suite (Slides, Docs, Sheets, Forms, etc.)
  • Use of Canva and other platforms to assist with creation of social media posts and media
  • Ability to prioritize while performing multiple tasks
  • Ability to adhere to College standards and practices
  • Ability to develop positive and cooperative interpersonal relationships
  • Ability to manage own time and work independently
  • Adheres to the Student Code Of Conduct and College Rules and Regulations
