The Opportunity
We are seeking a Per Diem Certified Nurse Midwife to support the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology for as needed in-patient, dayshift coverage at Newton Wellesley Hospital. The shifts are 12-hours, and we are looking for flexible availability covering weekday, weekend, and night rotations. The antenatal unit consists of 8 exam areas where all obstetric triage and cervical ripening occurs.
The Nurse Midwife will be responsible for:
• Evaluating, admitting, and discharging patients who present to the OB Triage (Antenatal Unit). These evaluations may include, but are not limited to:
- Suspected labor, preterm labor, ruptured membranes, hypertensive disorders and decreased fetal movement including interpretation of non-stress tests, laboratory tests, and ultrasound data
- Cervical ripening
• Formulating a plan of care and determining patient disposition to include discussion with the Attending OB as needed
• Providing education and counseling to patients and families as well as providing psychological, emotional and informational support during their care
• Participating in the discharge planning process for postpartum patients as needed
• Functioning as first assist with scheduled and unscheduled cesarean sections
• Supporting labor, birth, and immediate Postpartum care as indicated
• Attending OB Safety rounds, OB/GYN grand rounds, and other department meetings on a regular basis
This can be a busy unit and requires the ability to handle the stress that can result from an active caseload in a busy clinical environment, which can require high energy and self-direction. We are constantly aiming to meet the evolving health care needs of the communities we serve. This Per Diem role will allow our obstetrics patients improved continuity of care and increased access.

Qualifications QualificationsExperience
• Two years of Midwifery experience preferred
• Proficiency in EPIC electronic medical records preferred
License/Certification
• Completion of an approved program of Nurse Midwifery required, Masters Degree preferred
• Current authorization to practice as an advance practice clinician in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
• Current Nursing and Midwifery Licensure with current board certification by the American Midwifery Certification Board
• Current Drug Registration Licensure
