Job Summary: The Postdoctoral Fellow provides for an internship and continuation of scholarly activity and research after achieving the PhD or other doctoral degree under the direction of a senior faculty member who serves as a mentor for the postdoctoral appointee.

Additional Department Summary: The Coastal Hydrology Lab at The University of Alabama invites applications for a Postdoctoral Reseacher position. The position is fully funded by external grants from NSF, and NOAA, and the successful applicants will work with Dr. Hamed Moftakhari (https://hmoftakhari.people.ua.edu/). Computational modeling will be utilized, and a wide range of in-situ and remotely-sensed data, analytical and statistical tools/methods to characterize and quantify the extent to which coastal communities are exposed to compound flooding and how it will be exacerbated by sea level rise in the coming years. The position start date will be in May 2025 and for the initial appointment length of one (1) year with potential for extension.

The successful candidate is expected to conduct innovative and applied research on compound flood inundation mapping and nonstationary coastal flood hazard assessment.

Required Minimum Qualifications: Doctorate. Additional qualifications based on assignment.

Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in Civil, Environmental, Coastal or Ocean Engineering majoring water resources, hydrology, hydraulics, or a closely related field. Postdoctoral candidates will need to have completed their Ph.D. or have it completed by the start of employment. Skills and Knowledge: Experience in coastal ocean hydrodynamic modeling (e.g., DFLOW-FM, MIKE, ADCIRC), coastal hazard assessment, model coupling, model calibration and validation. Background in machine learning and statistical/probabilistic analysis. Strong programming/scripting capabilities. High performance computing skills. Strong written and verbal communication of research results.

Preferred Qualifications: Proven record in writing successful research proposals. Demonstrated ability of working in a multidisciplinary environment.
