In Fugro Geoconsulting our geoscientists and engineers have expertise in guiding data collection programs, identifying and analyzing geohazards, advising on foundation siting and design, and routing roads, pipelines and cables.
The Principal Geotechnical Engineer is responsible to provide accurate and customised services to clients by being a technical authority in their service line/business, functionally guiding project teams of geotechnical engineers and/or high complexity projects, serving as Fugro spokesperson/contact person towards clients, participating in (commercial) client visits, providing technical input for tenders, assisting with the establishment and compilation of project procedures, making recommendations during all project stages, reviewing and approving reports and deliverables before submission to client, maintaining regional recognition and contacts as an authority within field of expertise, serving in geotechnical committees and boards when required (e.g. standardisation bodies), actively being involved in preparing papers, setting out and documenting geotechnical deaprtment and/or regional guidelines, proposing improvements of research methods and quality systems, providing advise on company-wide geotechnical matters, making decisions and recommendations about and having an important impact on geotechnical engineering activities, sharing knowledge by writing procedures and courses and giving presentations and, leading commercial activities associated with services and leading technical development when required. People management is not a focus. Serves as an advisor to department manager, but works independently. Requires a university degree and in-depth knowledge and experience in the organisation, its processes and its customers.
Job Responsibilities

- Monitor project schedules and allocation of resources in line with specific project requirements.
- Monitor project team providing direction, support, and assistance as necessary.
- Review of project execution plans, method statements, schedules, QHSE plans and risk assessments to address Client HSE and technical requirements in line with Company procedures.
- Continuous communication and liaison with Clients, operations, engineering and laboratory departments, and other project stakeholders to ensure timely submission of deliverables and client satisfaction.
- Collate, track and present project KPIs to always maintain cost and contractual control.
- Assists in review of technical/commercial proposals where necessary.
- Attending and conducting regular internal/external technical project meetings, kick-off meetings and safety sessions.
- Review of factual/interpretative geotechnical reports to ensure that they meet project requirements.
- Ensure that project experience feedback is used as tool for improvement and learning.
- Continually seek to improve project performance and workflows.
- Control project budgets, expenditure and prepare project invoices.
- Promote and administer Fugro's safety program to ensure safe surroundings and work habits.
- Build and maintain positive professional relationships with other members of Fugro's various service lines.
Job Requirements
- Legally authorized to work in the United States without restrictions.
- Possess the ability to obtain a valid passport for international travel.
- Possess a Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering from accredited engineering university.
- Geotechnical Engineering preferred.
- Have 6 years or more of geotechnical engineering experience.
- Marine experienced preferred.
- Registered as a Professional Engineer.
- Proficiency in MS Office and technical software applications.
- Possess current driver's license with acceptable motor vehicle record.
