Wellstar Paulding Hospital in Hiram, Georgia is seeking a PRN Cardiac Rehab Exercise Physiologist.
Shift & Days: Various - PRN as needed.
Job Summary:
The Cardiac Rehab Exercise Physiologist reports directly to program Manager, in conjunction with Subject Matter Experts. Key responsibilities of the role include providing age appropriate, patient specific care that addresses the biological, emotional, psychological, physical fitness, and educational needs of the patients/family; collaboration with system care partners such as health psychology, diabetes education, and other wellness programs to ensure patients have access to all areas in the continuum of care. Through partnering with the multidisciplinary team of professionals, the development of individualized goal-oriented care plans and exercise prescriptions, the Cardiac Rehab Exercise Physiologist is central to the success of each patient in the Cardiac Rehab program.
Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Patient Care:
a. Assesses patient risk factors that are modifiable and provides strategies to aid patient in successful therapeutic lifestyle changes.
b. Participates in initial assessment and orientation of new participants. Assists in development of plan of care with other staff members.
c. Develops and adjusts individual exercise prescription in accordance with daily patient responses to exercise according to ACSM and AACVPR guidelines.
d. Supervises exercise session, monitors participants for inappropriate responses to exercise.
e. Responsible for blood pressure measurement, observation of telemetry responses and blood glucose measurement per department policy.
f. Documents daily on patient responses in Scott Care and EPIC.
g. Maintains strictest confidentiality concerning participants' and families' medical and personal information.
Teaching/Education:
a. Assesses patient's knowledge of cardiovascular disease, nutrition, risk factors and develops educational plan to meet individual needs.
b. Leads patient education in 1:1 and/or group setting.
c. Leads warm up, cool down, and strength training exercises.
Team Responsibilities:
a. Participates in emergency training sessions and assists as directed in emergency situations.
b. Attends a minimum of of scheduled staff meetings. If unable to attend, obtains information from meeting minutes or another team member.
c. Supports and assists in development of performance and process improvement initiatives designed to promote highest quality patient care.
d. Maintains flexibility to respond to changing needs of the team.
e. Contributes to cohesive group relations and communicates effectively with team members about individual patient findings or concerns about program issues.
Technology:
a. Basic working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, Success Factors, Scott Care system and Epic EMR system.
Self-Development:
a. Stays current in the field of cardiac rehabilitation and cardiovascular disease through journals, in-services, webcasts, computer based learning modules, meetings, peer-to-peer teaching and conferences.
b. Identifies self-learning needs and seeks opportunities for improvement.
c. Participates in group activities, meetings, in-services, etc., as well as, personal efforts to gain proficiency in the AACVPR Core Competencies.
Required Minimum Education:
• Bachelor's Degree Exercise Science or related field Required
Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):
Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) Upon Hire is Required
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) within 180 Days Required
Required Minimum Experience:
• Experience in exercising special populations including cardiac, geriatric, and diabetic patients. Required and
• Must possess knowledge of EKG, CAD, blood pressure and blood glucose monitoring and treatment options. Required and
• Cardiac Rehab experience Preferred
• Group exercise leadership and public speaking experience Preferred
Required Minimum Skills:
• Knowledge of coronary heart disease, cardiopulmonary anatomy and physiology, electrocardiography, and exercising special cardiac populations.
• The individual must be able to communicate and understand verbal and written English language and display a positive attitude.
