Job Description Summary / TWC Summary:

JOB SUMMARY:The Program Coordinator for Collaborative Union for Cancer Research, Education, and Disparities (P20 CURED) manages the day-to-day operations of the P20 CURED Program, an NCI funded program at Texas Southern University (TSU) and Baylor College of Medicine (BCM). May supervise staff employees, student workers, programs, or processes.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:The Program Coordinator for the CURED program is a highly collaborative, self-motivated, creative person that is adaptable to new processes with capacity to function independently. The Program Coordinator is knowledgeable (or able to become knowledgeable) of current cancer health trends that can be developed into programs implemented at both the individual and community level.

This is a Grant Funded position.

Essential Duties Summary:

P20 CURED Cancer Research Education Program (60%)

  • Cultivates and maintains relationships for recruitment of P20 CURED scholars
  • Engagement and onboarding support (at TSU and BCM) for scholars in the P20 CURED program
  • Provides day to day and hands on support for P20 CURED Scholars during summer research experience at TSU and BCM
  • Coordinates and tracks deliverables of P20 CURED Scholar
  • Supports cancer research education program curriculum development
  • Develops and implements Community Engagement and Outreach for the P20 CURED program
  • Prepare materials, set-up, plans, and implements outreach events and networking activities
  • Serves as direct contact for the P20 CURED program

Administrative (~30%)
  • Coordination and implementation of seminars during summer research experience, summer research symposium, and webinars during fall and spring semester
  • Supports selection and implementation of pilot projects
  • Maintain accurate event calendar and communicate event details with the team
  • Coordinate/schedule outreach events, meetings, conferences, room reservation, and travel plans
  • Prepares meeting agendas and minutes of meetings
  • Initiates and completes agreements for speakers, consultants, and professional service providers
  • Compiles all data required for progress and financial report
  • Hire, train, manage, supervise, and evaluate paid and/or volunteer student staff/interns
  • Maintains program website and social media platforms
  • Willingness to work flexible hours to meet the needs of the program

Financial (~10%)
  • Tracks and reconciles program expenditure
  • Orders and maintains program supplies
  • Initiates requisitions, tracks purchase orders and ensures timely payments of all invoices

Hiring Range:

$48,273.00 - $60,341.00

Education:

Bachelor's degree. Most relevant degree areas include public health, health promotion, health policy, social work-related degree, or health education.

Master's degree preferred but not required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Skill in:

  • Demonstrated skills in a variety of educational presentations, discussion, and facilitation
  • Demonstrated skills in computer software applications (e.g., Microsoft outlook, Teams, office 365)
  • Supervisory skills to effectively manage student staff or volunteers
  • Quantitative and qualitative research skills or willingness to learn skill (e.g., research design, survey development, community engagement studios/focus group design and facilitation, data analysis and interpretation, etc.)
  • Professional writing, publications, and/or presentations or willingness to learn skill
  • Detail oriented, Problem-solving, decision-making, multitasking and time management
  • Excellent communication, both verbal and written, with strong public speaking skills
  • Demonstrated experience in effective conflict management and resolution

Ability to:
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new processes and adhere to organizational objectives
  • Able to work in a team and produce quality output under tight deadlines
  • Ability to work independently, collaboratively, and exercise sound judgment
Work Experience:

Two (2) years relevant experience is required.

Working/Environmental Conditions:

  • Routine office environment. Sitting or standing in one location much of the time
  • Some travel locally and within the greater Houston area (~20%) with mileage reimbursement
  • Travel to professional conference to attend, present, network and learn about similar grant funded programs at least once a year with cost reimbursable under grant funding.
