Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:

The goal of the UNC Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention (HPDP) is to prevent chronic disease and reduce health disparities. Investigators and staff at HPDP work with communities to conduct research, provide training and translate research findings into policy and practice. Research areas include nutrition and physical activity, cardiovascular health, diabetes, obesity, healthy food access, cancer prevention and control, children's health, rural health, and health equity. HPDP is part of a network of 20 CDC Prevention Research Centers across the United States.

Position Summary:

This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station

Their mission is dedicated to supporting caregivers and those in their care by creating, evaluating, and implementing strategies to promote equitable health and wellness.

Moral Injury is commonly defined as the psychological distress that results from actions, or the lack of them, that violate someone's deeply held moral beliefs and values. This project, funded by the Department of Veteran's Affairs (VA) aims to understand the current landscape of moral injury research and practice from the perspective of research and practice experts (phase 1) and engage with US military Veteran's regarding their care experiences (phase 2). This Project Manager position (one, Time Limited- 1 year position) will work with the Community Health and Wellness Resource Team on the Moral Injury Project (Principal Investigator: Falon Smith).

The Project Manager will be responsible for providing day-to-day management of this project. The position duties include managing project timelines to ensure coordination of activities and that they are completed on time, organizing and facilitating project related meetings maintaining IRB applications (modifications and renewals) and assisting with training of research assistant and students. The Project Manager will develop and train others on all study protocols, manage and participate in data collection efforts, which may include some out-of-state travel, work with data manager on data entry and data cleaning and facilitating data analyses and manage project budget and expenses. The position will also complete reports as requested by the funder, maintain organized files and learn about and assist with other projects within the research group as needed.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the field assigned and one year of related training or experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

- Experience or coursework in research methodology.
- Qualitative methodology experience (e.g., motivational interviewing, therapeutic counseling)
- Experience managing responsibilities of a study or project.
- Experience supervising employees or students.
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Able to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Valid documentation (e.g., drivers license) for travel, as some out-of-state travel may be required.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

- Experience or knowledge of the US Veteran's Affairs systems, especially mental health services.
- Experience in Public Health, Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Rehabilitation Sciences, Nursing or another related field.
- Experience with social science research projects, particularly those related to Veteran health and/or mental health/counseling services.
- Human ethics certification.
- Familiarity with IRB processes.
- Experience working in a research setting, recruiting and gathering data for behavioral research.
