Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:The Energy Services Department consists of five groups: (1) Cogeneration Systems (generates electricity and steam, and the distribution of steam throughout campus and UNC Hospitals); (2) Electric Distribution Systems (distribution of electrical power throughout campus); (3) Chilled Water Systems (producing and distributing chilled water throughout campus); (4) Water, Wastewater and Stormwater (for the use and conservation of water, as well as the proper management of stormwater and runoff); and (5) Administration (provides GIS, SCADA, coordination of operational information technologies, strategic planning, and management functions). Together these five groups provide safe, reliable, environmentally responsible, and cost-effective steam, electricity, chilled water, sanitary sewer, reclaimed water, and potable water utility services to the University's campus in a manner that moves UNC closer to the goals of Three Zeros Environmental Initiative.
Position Summary:The primary purpose of this position is to plan, coordinate, and lead IT projects that support enterprise Energy Services management functions. This position will work directly with systems programmers in the development, installation, modification, tailoring, tuning and maintenance of systems related software and hardware. There are many challenges facing the Energy Services department. These challenges include supporting campus growth and funding campus infrastructure expansion requirements, providing a quality utility infrastructure for the University, continuing to serve customers with reliable service, and balancing budgets with campus needs.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:Master's and 2-4 years experience; or Bachelor's and 3-5 years experience; or will accept a combination of related education and experience in substitution.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:An additional two years of related experience in project management, IT support, or business analysis.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:Ability to work with diverse groups within the workplace.
Experience in a higher education setting is preferable, particularly in a utility area.
