Background information:

Innovative Defense Technologies (IDT), provider of automated software testing, data analysis, and cybersecurity solutions for complex, mission-critical systems in the US Department of Defense (DOD), is seeking a Scrum Master to be based in our Arlington, Virginia office.

Overview:

The Warfare Systems business area is one of six mission critical business units within the IDT organization and is directly responsible for building, testing, and deploying the Navy's next generation of tactical warfare and weapons systems. As the nation enters the 'technology-first' era of warfare, the Warfare Systems group will be responsible for enabling and accelerating the mission critical tactical capability that is delivered to the warfighter.

Innovative Defense Technologies (IDT), is currently accepting applications for an anticipated Scrum Master role requiring 3+ years of experience in support of its Warfare Systems business area. This position offers the opportunity to utilize his/her knowledge and talents as part of a collaborative team developing software for a growing company.

All applicants must be able to obtain/maintain an active U.S. Security Clearance.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Coordinate cross-functional teams, including systems engineers, software developers, and other stakeholders, to drive project execution and resolve technical issues effectively.
  • Develop comprehensive project plans, timelines, and resource allocations, identifying critical milestones and dependencies to mitigate risks and ensure successful project outcomes.
  • Communicate and work collaboratively with colleagues and lead engineers.
  • Organize and lead sprint planning, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives and ensure these events are productive and within the time-box.
  • Help the team identify and remove any obstacles that may hinder their progress.
  • Provide guidance on Scrum practices and principles, helping the team understand and implement Agile methodologies effectively.
  • Protect the team from external distractions and interruptions, allowing them to focus on their work.
  • Facilitate retrospectives and help the team implement changes based on feedback.
  • Assist in ensuring a well-maintained and prioritized product backlog.
Minimum Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Systems Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or other technical field highly desired.
  • 3+ years of professional experience in technically rigorous environments
  • Certified ScrumMaster® (CSM) certification

Required skills:

  • Deep understanding of Agile methodologies and the Scrum framework.
  • Proficiency with agile development tools, specifically Jira and Confluence.
  • Ability to facilitate Scrum events like sprint planning, daily stand-ups, retrospectives and reviews.
  • Exceptional facilitation skills to guide teams through Scrum processes.
  • Proficiency in managing projects, tracking progress, and organizing team efforts.
  • Ability to travel approximately 20% of the time.

Preferred skills:

  • Understanding of microservices architecture principles and experience in designing, deploying, and managing microservices-based applications.
  • Understanding of networking principles, protocols, and security best practices.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure as code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
  • Familiarity with DevOps methodologies and practices, including continuous integration, continuous delivery (CI/CD), and collaboration tools (e.g., Git, Jenkins, GitLab).
  • Familiarity in programming languages such as Java, C++, or Go, along with experience in software development methodologies, version control systems, and code review practices.
