Job Description:
Plan, schedule, assign, and supervise the work activities of assigned staff to attain work goals, and to ensure consistent application of administrative policies, procedures, and standards. Train or supervise training of new personnel. Evaluate staff and supervise assigned security staff, including completion of performance evaluations, recommendation and documentation of personnel actions, and enforcement of work performance standards, as needed. Ensure proper monitoring and operation of security equipment; write reports and make Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) entries; monitor building maintenance and fire systems. Coordinate dispatching of security guard/state troopers to alarms, calls for assistance and coordinates with other agencies for medical, fire, and law enforcement needs; run reports, change and issue access cards; handle telephone calls from the public, state employees, and elected and appointed individuals; use the Nebraska Criminal Justice Information Services (NCJIS) website to obtain Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) records and protection orders; perform the duties of a security guard and/or security communications specialist as needed.

3rd shift 11:00 p.m. - 7:00 a.m. Days off to be determined, however shifts may involve working days, evenings, and nights, along with weekends and holidays as needed for 24-hour coverage.

Requirements/Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: Any combinations of education, training, and/or experience that will enable an individual to possess the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. A general qualification guideline for positions in this class is experience in an automated security communications center.

Preferred: Experience with CAD, and Microsoft programs.

Applicants must be free of felony convictions. Applicants cannot maintain a continuous association or dealings with persons, groups, or organizations that they know, or should know are persons or groups or organizations under criminal investigation or indictment or who have a reputation for present, ongoing involvement in felonious or criminal behavior. Applicant must successfully complete an extensive background screening prior to being employed, which includes completion of a Personal History Questionnaire. Selection process will include an interview.

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Supervisory and personnel practices, agency and state security policies, procedures, and guidelines
  • Agency and state security equipment and alarm systems.

ABILITY TO:
  • Operate security and alarm systems, operate basic and advanced personal computers, communicate effectively both verbally and written, make decisions in emergency situations under pressure and handle multiple alarm and emergency conditions at the same time. (Security Communications Shift Supervisor must be able to walk at least 3 miles during each shift and have the ability to climb stairs.)
