Position Overview:

The Senior Commercial Finance Analyst is an experienced professional and business partner who provides critical financial and commercial support to the Joint Venture (JV) organization. As a self-starter, this individual is capable of working both independently and collaboratively within a team. This role reports to the Finance department but operates closely within the Joint Venture Governance team. The ideal candidate will be a strong communicator, proactive problem-solver, and an excellent team player.

This is an in-office role located at our corporate headquarters in downtown Houston, TX.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the monthly accounting close process, ensuring accurate recording of Motiva's share of the JV's financial performance.
  • Prepare monthly reporting packages, including actual vs. budget analysis, for senior management.
  • Conduct in-depth analysis to provide actionable insights on financial performance and support future forecasting.
  • Document and maintain detailed processes and procedures, driving continuous process improvements across the team.
  • Develop and support the 3-year Motiva operational business plan for the JV in collaboration with Joint Venture partners.
  • Conduct research and prepare JV financial evaluations, including financial trends, operational and capital analysis.
  • Create financial models, decision reports, and ad-hoc analysis to aid in the JV project/deal decision-making process.
  • Manage multiple high-priority projects and tasks simultaneously while ensuring timely delivery.
  • Adhere to audit processes and review internal controls to guarantee the accuracy and timeliness of financial transactions, in compliance with accounting standards and company policies.
  • Proactively identify and address issues and opportunities that may impact financial performance.
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure transparency and credibility of financial results.
  • Support financial audits of Joint Venture partners as needed.
  • Maintain a superior understanding of data and information resources relevant to financial analysis.

Experience and Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in an Accounting, Finance, or Commercial position
  • Familiarity with financial systems such as SAP, RightAngle, Tableau, and Power BI, or the ability to learn quickly.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and network across business functions.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work independently, delivering high-quality work within deadlines.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to digest large amounts of data and provide actionable recommendations.
  • Ability to understand the broader business impact of financial results and decisions.
  • Integrity and transparency in all actions.

Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Prior Joint Venture experience
