Senior Director of Flight Operations

SUMMARY

The Senior Director of Flight Operations is responsible to report to the Chief Operating Officer in designing infrastructure that supports the safe execution of flight operations consistent with Amerijet International Airlines corporate values and economic goals by supporting management and supervisory staff to develop operational solutions, and act as a point of contact with pilots on operational control issues. Key responsibilities include performing and delivering various flight operation functions and programs including but not limited to aircraft performance, record keeping, FAA relations, operational control, promoting a Just Culture, support of the SMS process, and talent acquisition.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following, but not limited to:

  • The Senior Director of Flight Operations is responsible for flight operations (operational control), Operations Record keeping and coordination of operational functions for maximum efficiency of operations. This role will be the direct liaison with the assigned FAA Principal Operations Inspector.
  • The Senior Director of Flight Operations is responsible for supervising the distribution and posting of information or memoranda relative to any changes affecting Company policy, route information, integrity of instrument navaids, NOTAMS, requisitioning of flying aids, and aeronautical publications
  • The Senior Director of Flight Operations is responsible for obtaining the necessary diplomatic clearances prior to departure for flights into or over foreign countries listed on Operations Specifications.
  • The Senior Director of Flight Operations will ensure that Operations Control is adequately staffed with qualified personnel appropriate to required flight operations. This role will also ensure that no flight crew member will be scheduled in excess of duty and flight time and that flight crew members have complied with legal rest requirements before their scheduling.
  • The Senior Director of Flight Operations will be responsible for coordination and liaising with Federal Aviation Administration Inspectors and officials and other agencies.
  • The Senior Director of Flight Operations is responsible for the quality of the carriage of cargo, flight/load manifest/weight and balance control process, establishing policies, procedures and standards to assure a safe operation in compliance with the Federal Aviation Regulations and the Company Operations Specifications.
  • The Senior Director of Flight Operations is responsible for the quality of all programs associated with the management of flight and cargo flight operations for the Company. While functions for monitoring the effectiveness of programs may be delegated, the responsibility for those functions may not be delegated.
  • The Senior Director of Flight Operations possesses the authority to plan, direct and control the financial and human resources related to safety management and risk acceptance within the Operations department. This includes the responsibility to ensure that safety management promotion and training be provided to all personnel.
  • The Senior Director of Flight Operations is responsible for managing the Chief Pilot with regard to programs, standards, and staffing of the pilot workforce.
  • The Senior Director of Flight Operations has overall responsibility for the control and quality of the processes listed in paragraph 4 of this section. He will oversee the administration and effectiveness of these processes. The Director of Flight Operations is the person individuals may contact directly with concerns or potential problems identified regarding these processes.
  • The Senior Director of Flight Operations is responsible for ensuring that any proposed changes to the processes are discussed with applicable essential and support personnel and changes are evaluated in accordance with SMS Change Risk Management policies. The Senior Director of Flight Operations shall ensure that the impact of any changes to the process, controls and interfaces are properly addressed throughout the Company's manual system in accordance with the manual revision procedures contained in Chapter 1 of the GMM and GOM.
  • May perform duties as a flight crew member when properly qualified in the aircraft.
  • Responsible for supervising the distribution and posting of all information affecting or making a change to the Company's flight operations of Operations Specifications.
  • Is responsible for the final approval of the selection of all flight operations personnel.
  • Is responsible for all record-keeping requirements and the proper maintenance and disposition of those records.
  • Ensures that qualified and current pilots are assigned to each flight.
  • Reviews data and analyzes past and current year operational requirements to prepare departmental budgets, track budget performance, and justify fund requests.
  • Maintains records and prepares statistical reports to evaluate performance and monitor progress of operations efficiency.
  • Responsible in conjunction with the Director of Maintenance and the pilot in command, for ensuring the maintenance and inspection status of the assigned aircraft, is current and that required maintenance actions or inspections will not come due before the planned completion of the flight.
  • The duties and authority to accomplish these duties may be delegated as necessary; however, such delegation does not relieve the Director of Flight Operations of the overall responsibility.
  • Serve as a member of the company negotiating committee for the collective bargaining agreement with ALPA.
  • Review contract grievances filed by ALPA on behalf of the Pilot work force.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Must meet the minimum requirement by the Federal Aviation Regulations Part 119.67.
  • Have at least 3 years supervisory or management experience within the last 6 years in a position that exercised operational control over any operations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Intermittent physical activity including bending, reaching, and prolonged periods of sitting.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts; high or precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme hot or cold weather conditions.
  • Noise level in the work environment will occasionally be loud.
