The Mother-Infant Biobehavioral Laboratory is part of the Department of Psychiatry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The primary purpose of this clinical research program is to explore the biological underpinnings of human social interactions and to understand how they are altered by biological and behavioral factors such as prenatal substance exposure or addiction, depression, pregnancy, lactation and environmental factors. A second purpose is to understand the influence these factors exert on long term physical and psychological health and disease susceptibility.

Position Summary:

The primary purpose of this Social/Clinical Research Specialist position is to be responsible for planning all aspects of subject recruitment and retention, scheduling and conducting the various study protocols, the collection of data and data entry. The Research Specialist will develop and maintain collaborative relationships with various recruitment and participant support resources in the community.

The Research Specialist will be responsible for oversight, training, supervising and managing individual study coordinators, assistants and staff, ensuring the timely completion of each study, developing recruitment plans, assisting in managing study budgets, completing and maintenance of all study human subjects protocols, consents, and IRB communications (renewals, modifications, applications), as well as assisting in the day to day operation of the ongoing studies. This person will also lead community engagement, outreach and education efforts for the UNC site of a national 10-year study of child development.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the field assigned and one year of related training or experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

Must be detail-oriented and conscientious, and be comfortable communicating with staff, investigators, and study participants. Ability to work and be comfortable in a fast-paced environment with a diverse team. Excellent written and oral communications skills.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

Experience in prenatal substance use treatment and mental health. LCSW or other related research experience with pregnant or parenting women with perinatal substance use disorder.
